Develops, implements, and maintains the Senior Center ’s community outreach ac�vi�es. Evaluates volunteer and community outreach programming to ensure that it reflects and successfully meets the changing needs and interests of community members 50+ years of age. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Develops and implements volunteer programs and community outreach materials and ac�vi�es that support the mission and goals of the Senior Center. • Regularly evaluates and iden�fies the volunteer needs and interests of community members 50+ years of age, uses findings to update current programs. • Recruits, trains, and places volunteers for the Senior Center, evaluates performance and offers guidance. • Oversees and supports volunteer services offered at the Senior Center, such as Senior Health Insurance Informa�on Program, legal counseling, tax aid, Honoring Your Wishes and all volunteer led ac�vity groups and clubs. • Maintains the volunteer database and prepares reports as needed. • Plans and executes on-going volunteer recogni�on including regular contact and nomina�on for awards. • Responds to ques�ons and sugges�ons from public and City employees regarding volunteer programs and the Senior Center. • Coordinates major Senior Center outreach and public rela�ons ac�vi�es such as the Program Guide, the web site content, press releases and purchased adver�sing. • Performs public speaking, represents the Senior Center on community-wide commitees, partners with area business and organiza�ons. • Trains, oversees, and guides the work ac�vi�es of work study students and hourly employees for Senior Center Television. • Develops, implements, and manages volunteer programs, engagement, and recogni�on. Updated: March 2024 • Develops, submits, and administers grant proposals for programs and special projects, develops and nurtures corporate sponsorships. • Assists with budget prepara�on, es�mates budgetary expenditures for volunteer programs, monitors expenditures related to volunteer programs. • Provides technology support to staff, volunteers, and users. • Helps plan and carry out emergency procedures. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and two years of related experience; or six years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree in Social Work, Therapeu�c Recrea�on, or related. Experience in working with adults 50+, volunteer management, or marke�ng. • Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and three to five years of related experience; or seven years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree in Aging Studies or Gerontology. Experience in community outreach. • Cer�fica�on in CPR and the use of an external automated defibrillator. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to establish effec�ve working rela�onships between department staff, the public, Senior Center volunteers, and community partners. • Ability to iden�fy program priori�es, develop realis�c work plans, and work on mul�ple tasks. • Ability to prepare writen materials including records, reports and orienta�on materials. • Ability to read and interpret reports and journals. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of community and university resources. • Knowledge of community services for the elderly. Updated: March 2024 • Knowledge of current trends in aging and aging services. • Knowledge of principles and prac�ces of volunteer program development, implementa�on, and evalua�on. • Knowledge of website management and database management. • Skill in marke�ng, public rela�ons and communica�on. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook). Supervision Involves leadership role such as regularly guiding, training, and providing direction to temporary/hourly, seasonal, or work-study staff in completing basic, entry-level daily tasks and assignments. Does not carry out disciplinary action, does not hire or fire, is not responsible for writing or delivering performance review.
