Job Summary
Under general direc�on, maintains and repairs electronic and industrial electrical control
systems and electrical distribu�on systems in the Wastewater division.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Maintains and repairs motor control centers and electrical distribu�on systems at the
City’s wastewater treatment plant and li� sta�ons.
• Performs opera�onal checks on electric motor control panels and instrumenta�on
equipment.
• Assists in the installa�on and programming of logic controllers and variable frequency
drivers.
• Operates and repairs electronic and electrical test equipment used for diagnos�c and
trouble shoo�ng.
• Calibrates gas detectors, flow meters and other electronic sensors.
• Assists in design and installa�on of new electrical and electronic systems.
• Assists in integra�ng new equipment with exis�ng controls.
• Assists in re-design and installa�on of improvements to exis�ng controls.
• Assists in research and coordinates repairs and changes with plant staff, equipment
manufacturers and suppliers.
• Assists in the design and implementa�on of preven�ve maintenance programs for
electrical and electronic equipment.
• Conducts monthly tes�ng of generators, ensures upkeep and maintenance.
• Assists in upda�ng PLC and VFD programming to meet changing opera�onal needs.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed including electrical one-line drawings of
new and exis�ng electrical systems.
• Maintains parts and materials documenta�on and inventory.
• Assists with other divisional electrical or electronic instrumenta�on needs.
• Performs general housekeeping, shop and vehicle maintenance.
• Performs electrical work in compliance with local, state and na�onal codes.

• Maintains inventory and requisi�ons replacement items.
• Performs on-call du�es, as assigned.
• Responds to wastewater plant and li� sta�on equipment emergency calls.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution; or four years of related
experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree as an
Electrician. Experience in electrical work.
• State of Iowa Cer�fied Journeyman Electrician License required. Forkli� cer�fica�on
required within two years of appointment. Sa�sfactory driving record. Valid State of
Iowa commercial driver’s license instruc�on permit upon first day in posi�on. Valid State
of Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement within 6 months
of hire. Meet federal drug tes�ng requirements. Requires a pre-employment drug
screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related
experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
• State of Iowa Master Electrical License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
propor�ons, percentage.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons, measure, and calculate electrical
formulas.
• Ability to prepare writen records, rou�ne reports, and documenta�on.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, schema�cs, technical manuals, safety
rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on.
• Knowledge of City and Na�onal electrical codes and the rules and standards pertaining
to industrial electrical construc�on and the maintenance of electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of the theory, prac�ce, and equipment used in electrical trade.
• Skill in the use of a pla�orm li� truck, a u�lity truck, and various hand and power tools.
