Job Summary
Performs general and specialized administra�ve support func�ons for the Iowa City Housing
Authority (ICHA). Provides informa�on and assistance to the public and other city departments
regarding ICHA opera�ons and ac�vi�es including: The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program,
Public Housing Program, HUD-VASH vouchers, Mainstream Vouchers, Project Based Vouchers,
Family Self-Sufficiency programs and Homeownership programs.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Screens and routes incoming calls; refers unanswered ques�ons to the appropriate
par�es and interacts courteously with the public.
• Interacts with clientele to provide and receive informa�on; distributes and explains
forms to clientele; reviews forms for completeness and accuracy; distributes
forms/documents to appropriate staff.
• Maintains waitlist; checks automated applica�on system for Housing Choice Voucher
and Public Housing wai�ng lists.
• Inputs data as necessary into Housing Pro database.
• Scans all necessary documents/files for ICHA programs in accordance with ICHA policy
and HUD direc�ves.
• Reviews police arrest dockets from all law enforcement agencies within ICHA jurisdic�on
and cross references that informa�on with ICHA client data base.
• Disseminates and forwards applicable data to inves�gate for poten�al program
viola�ons.
• Receives and processes payments of overpaid subsidy; prepares paperwork for Revenue
division; and records payments in client files.
• Maintains inventory of ICHA brochures, pamphlets and documents related to available
Community Resources.
• Ensures the informa�on is properly displayed and made available to the general public.
• Provides transla�on services, if applicable.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the
workplace and community.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. or pursuit of degree and one to three months of related
experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in general office management and/or customer service.
• Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to communicate in
Spanish, French, Swahili and/or Arabic.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to mul�ply and divide with 10's and
100's.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to effec�vely present informa�on in one-on-one and small group situa�ons to
customers, clients, and other employees of the organiza�on.
• Ability to maintain confiden�ality and handle detailed personally iden�fiable
informa�on.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including calculators, printers and copiers.
• Ability to perform mul�ple tasks in an open environment and communicate or relay
informa�on under stressful condi�ons.
• Ability to read and understand technical materials, manuals and other department
documenta�on to record work ac�vi�es, keep records, and work on the computer.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Knowledge of department opera�ons and programs.
• Knowledge of general office procedures, and clerical and financial record keeping
procedures.
• Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook).
