Job Summary
Supports community rela�ons and engagement for the Office of Equity and Human Rights as it
relates to racial equity, social jus�ce, and human rights. Coordinates awareness, educa�on, and
marke�ng efforts for the Office. Ensures alignment of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) goals
and objec�ves by facilita�ng meaningful engagement with diverse popula�ons and supports
collabora�ve implementa�on of special projects and programs.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Coordinates, plans, designs, and produces informa�onal materials in verbal, writen,
graphic, digital, video, and other formats to generate awareness and educate the public
on unlawful discrimina�on and EDI.
• Develops news releases and web content and serves as liaison with the media for
assigned ac�vi�es; communicates EDI messaging to the public through digital, print and
spoken presenta�on.
• Plans and coordinates community special events and facilitates community gatherings
focused on issues of racial equity, social jus�ce, and human rights.
• Supports and facilitates engagement with under-represented groups within the
community to create rela�onships and promote equitable access.
• Promotes the work, ac�vi�es, and programs of the office using social media,
newsleters, mailings, news releases, websites, and other forms of communica�on.
• Co-leads and supports community rela�ons and engagement for racial equity, social
jus�ce, and human rights ini�a�ves with internal and external audiences.
• Develops promo�onal and marke�ng materials for the office to increase community
access to informa�on, opportuni�es, and services related to engagement with the city
and the office.
• Par�cipates in community ac�vi�es (nights and weekends), events, and programs to
con�nue to build trust and rela�onships.
• Atends mee�ngs, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to remain current on
the technical skills and basic principles, prac�ces, and development in EDI and human
rights.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Associate’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related
experience; or three years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of
educa�on and experience. Experience in working with diverse popula�ons.
• Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record required. Must be 18
years of age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on; or four years of related
experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Bilingual
speaking ability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to communicate effec�vely, both orally and in wri�ng.
• Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to plan and organize community events and programs.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance
instruc�ons, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to work effec�vely with individuals from diverse communi�es and cultures.
• Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence.
• Knowledge of local/municipal government structure.
• Knowledge of social jus�ce principles and applica�on.
• Skill in graphic design.
• Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Illustrator.
Supervision
No supervision of direct reports.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Du�es are generally performed in
an office se�ng with a controlled environment. The job requires si�ng for extended periods of

work pace pressure. Ability to travel in the community and atend evening and weekend
mee�ngs.
