Job Summary
Under immediate direc�on, collects household waste and garbage and/or yard waste or bulky
items/appliances at curbside and transports to the Landfill.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Collects large items and household waste and garbage and/or yard waste or bulky
items/appliances from curbside.
• Transports collected garbage and/or yard waste or other bulky items/appliances to the
landfill, dumps load for processing.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and vehicles.
• Drives City trucks on daily assignments.
• Performs daily vehicle walk-around for safety and vehicle maintenance check.
• Ensures that employees have proper personal protec�ve equipment.
• Documents and enforces collec�on rules with the public.
• Delivers recycling supplies and yard waste supplies to businesses.
• Picks up dead animals.
• Delivers bins and carts to homes and businesses.
• Maintains and cleans office.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the
workplace and community.
• Performs other du�es as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Sa�sfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial driver’s license instruc�on
permit upon first day in posi�on. Valid State of Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license
with air brake and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire. Meet federal drug tes�ng

requirements. Requires a pre-employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must
pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in general
labor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to mul�ply and divide with 10's and
100's.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
writen or oral instruc�ons.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to follow verbal and writen orders.
• Ability to interface posi�vely with staff and customers.
• Ability to perform these opera�ons using units of American money and weight
measurement, volume, and distance.
• Ability to read and understand maps and street signs.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Knowledge of solid waste regula�ons.
• Knowledge of street loca�ons and general City geography.
• Skill in driving a truck.
Supervision
No supervision of direct reports.
