HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWI - TransitUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Maintenance Worker I – Transit Department: Transporta�on Services Division: Transit Supervisor: Opera�ons Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 2 Job Number: 0210 Job Summary Under immediate direc�on, performs work of rou�ne difficulty in the cleaning and maintenance of City buses and equipment. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Cleans, sweeps, pulls vaults, and washes buses daily u�lizing an automa�c bus washer. • Performs rou�ne preven�ve maintenance to buses; checks and maintains oil, transmission fluid and coolant at appropriate levels; adds fuel to buses; places buses on hold list based on driver-defect cards. • Parks buses when cleaned and fueled for use. • Maintains job records. • Updates the distribu�on of adver�sing material on buses. • Probes bus fare boxes and puts money in safe. • Locks and secures facility. • Monitors and stocks mechanized fare boxes with transfers. • Drains building air compressor at the end of each night. • Maintains safe and secure environment that is free from hazards. • Sani�zes driver’s area and passenger spaces of each bus daily. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. • Valid State of Iowa driver's license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Updated: March 2024 Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in custodial services or related. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved writen or oral instruc�ons. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on in one-on-one and small group situa�ons to customers, clients, and other employees of the organiza�on. • Ability to follow oral and writen instruc�ons. • Ability to read and understand work orders and maintain writen job records. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Knowledge at basic level of public transit procedures and schedules. • Skill in the opera�on of buffers, waxers and other types of cleaning equipment. Supervision No supervision of direct reports. Updated: March 2024 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, vibration, confined space, and traffic hazards. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, dampness, direct sunlight, dust, pollen, insect stings, and animals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
