HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Accountant - RevenueUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Senior Accountant - Revenue Department: Finance Division: Revenue Supervisor: Assistant Finance Director FLSA: Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 14 Job Number: 1421 Job Summary Under direc�on, applies principles of accoun�ng to analyze financial informa�on, perform special projects and prepare financial reports with an emphasis in accoun�ng for revenue and investment transac�ons. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Compiles and analyzes financial informa�on to prepare entries to accounts and document business transac�ons. • Reconciles bank deposits, receipts and expenditures to accoun�ng records and prepares journal entries. • Encodes all receipts and disbursements through data entry into ERP system and reconciles cash register �e out. • Analyzes total deposits entered in cash register system; verifies totals and completes correc�on form as needed. • Analyzes and forecasts cash flow projec�ons. determines cash flow needs in rela�on to investment maturi�es. • Prepares documents for entry of investment ac�vity into system, verifies month end investment ac�vi�es and maintains por�olio analysis, obtains investment interest rate quotes. • Prepares quarterly investment report for City Council. • Works with Informa�on Technology Services Division on web payment repor�ng issues such as parking, u�lity, library fees and ge�ng those posted to the system. • Prepares banking correspondence; emails and wires instruc�ons, check research, stop payment and void requests and bank errors; wires instruc�ons for cer�ficate of deposits, emails Surepay (water and parking) account debits, enters wire and ACH payments on bank website. • Processes and follows up on non-sufficient funds checks. • Prepares various reports on a monthly basis including the parking revenues and hours report and the transit pass �ckets and revenue report. Updated: March 2024 • Maintains list of credit card terminals and coordinates credit card terminal maintenance, acquisi�on, replacement and banking rela�ons. • Tracks web credit card sta�s�cs; reconciles credit card ac�vi�es to bank reconcilia�on; assists in management of web credit card accounts. • Assists in maintaining PCI compliance and training other staff. • Prepares and submits unclaimed property report to State of Iowa each year. • Coordinates special projects on a regular basis including the investment yield report and por�ons of the fiscal year audit that are related to cash and investments. • Enters daily banking ac�vity for all bank accounts and investments. • Trains division co-workers as back-up for all accoun�ng procedures and du�es listed above. • Assists as back-up for other division co-workers responsibili�es. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs all other related du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and two years of related experience; or six years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree in Accoun�ng or Finance. Experience in accoun�ng or as a financial analyst. • Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and three to five years of related experience; or seven years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in governmental accoun�ng. • Cer�fied Public Accountant designa�on. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to apply principles of logical or scien�fic thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, propor�ons, percentages, ability to develop and present mathema�cal and sta�s�cal informa�on. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on and respond to ques�ons from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to interpret a variety of instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to interpret a variety of instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
