Job Summary
Under general direc�on, repairs and maintains transit and parking facili�es, hea�ng, ven�la�on,
air condi�oning systems and other opera�ng equipment, passenger wai�ng shelters and fare
boxes.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Repairs, maintains and monitors building systems at the transit facili�es including
downtown interchange facility, Court Street Center, parking ramps to include overhead
doors, hea�ng, ven�la�on, air condi�oning, electrical, plumbing, air, automated bus
wash, landscaping, spiters, gates, computerized building controls, passenger wai�ng
shelters, doors and handicapped door openers, card readers and power pads.
• Repairs and maintains methane abatement including monitoring of equipment, pumps,
lines and wells.
• Oversees fire inspec�on and back flow preven�on inspec�ons; ensures compliance.
• Cleans storage areas and shelters and performs grounds maintenance.
• Repairs and maintains shelters, fare boxes, counters, des�na�on signs, upholstery, steam
cleaning equipment, parking entrance, exit equipment and other items and equipment.
• Schedules preven�ve maintenance for garage entrance and exit equipment, including
�cket spiters, monthly card readers, gates, cash registers, register printers, ramp
ligh�ng, automated pay sta�ons, coin machines, meters, cases and posts.
• Examines transit and parking facili�es and shelters for needed repairs and maintenance;
makes recommenda�ons for major work.
• Orders and inventories janitorial supplies and equipment, building supplies and parts,
fare box parts and parking equipment.
• Schedules and monitors the work of contractors, oversees the cleaning of transit facility.
• Ensures work is performed in a safe manner for the division which includes maintaining
of material safety data sheet, personal protec�ve equipment, and lockout tagout.
• Assists in wri�ng specifica�ons for contrac�ng of items including obtaining quotes and
pricing; assists with development of budget figures for maintenance, accounts for
expenditures on a monthly basis.

• Supervises and performs snow and ice removal from lots, ramps, and other public
spaces.
• Supervises and performs paint striping of parking stalls and crosswalks in the downtown.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on; or four years of related
experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in
building maintenance.
• Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with a sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of
age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor ’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related
experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of
educa�on and experience. Experience in hea�ng, ven�la�on, air condi�oning systems,
electrical and plumbing repairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and calculate surface areas, volumes,
wats and resistances.
• Ability to perform these opera�ons using units of American money and weight
measurement, volume, and distance.
• Ability to prepare writen work instruc�ons and reports.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals, safety rules, opera�ng
and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on.
• Knowledge of basic construc�on techniques.
• Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, carpentry and electrical and
mechanical systems.
• Skill in use of a floor sweeper, transit coach, welder, mower, snow blower, steam cleaner,
tractor and hand and power tools.
• Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook).

permanent staff in completing basic, entry-level daily tasks and assignments. Does not carry out
disciplinary action, does not hire or fire, is not responsible for writing or delivering performance
review.
