Typically a walk can be approved with the understanding that the pedestrians will obey all traffic laws, and would not need assistance with the police to cross the street unless there is a need to block a street. Runners, even if they are told that they have to obey traffic laws will still run into traffic, and generally need more assistance in traffic control if it is a race. We need to have discussions with the race director prior to approving the permit. I will be out of town until next Wednesday, please have them contact Lt. Bill Campbell. They also distinguish between walkers and runner in the registration: Walker: No Fees Walkers are eligible for a Heart Walk t-shirt once they have raised a minimum of $100. 5K Runner: $25.00 All run participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt. If you raise a minimum of $100, you will also be eligible to receive a Heart Walk t-shirt. I need to talk with the event Director in order to assess their needs. Perhaps we should start doing this before the permit is issued.
