This letter will address the specific issues brought up in the Request for Proposals letter of September 20, 2007, and outline the budget for this proj ect. Our proposed artwork is a series of photographs of pigment infused bubbles, printed directly on aluminum and mounted on the wall of the Recreation Center. We work with Image Wizards, a professional printing company that applies proprietary coatings to aluminum to produce unparalleled definition. The ability to produce high resolution and long term quality of the image is due to direct fusing of the image into the coating of the aluminum. The finish is brushed satin. An example of this material is submitted along with this packet. The coatings and materials have been engineered to provide a long life for the image. Image life is typically 50 years. Indirect sunlight is fine, but the materials are not designed for direct sunlight or outdoor use. The printer suggests cleaning with a microfiber towel using isopropyl alcohol or Maguiar's Cleaner Wax for the best results. No other maintenance should be necessary. The artwork will be fastened to the wall with aluminum channel. Affixed with epoxy to the back of the artwork is one side of the channel, and that interlocks into a second aluminum channel mounted onto the pool wall. No special lighting will be incorporated into the artwork. The exposed wall behind the artwork can remain as it is, or it can be painted white. For the Recreation Center Pool area, we propose creating 9 panels of varying sizes that average 56 square feet per panel. The production cost will be $90 per square foot, or $45,360. The cost of materials and labor to securely mount the panels to the pool wall will be $2,750. Total cost is $48,110. In that project 4 aluminum panels of 64 inches by 40 inches formed a quadrant of panels totaling 128 inches high by 80 inches wide. We are very excited about the project and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in enhancing the public spaces of Iowa City. Very truly yours, Bao Pham and The Chait Galleries Downtown
