For the bike race event, organizers should be reminded they will need permission from Johnson County and the Corps of
Engineers for areas outside Iowa City. Bicyclists should stay as far to right side of the road as is practical, and be aware
traffic will be using these roads.
The application states off-duty officers will be used for traffic control – at what locations? Applicant should work with
the Police Dept to confirm and clarify.
Bicyclists should observe all rules of the road including stop signs and traffic signals, unless Police traffic control is
available to stop traffic for the event. Affected intersections in Iowa City appear to include Rochester / Regina driveway,
Rochester / First Ave, First Ave / Scott Blvd, Scott Blvd / North Dodge, North Dodge / Prairie du Chien Rd, and Dubuque
St / Linder Rd.
Applicant will want to clarify with Johnson County if the event will be on the Dubuque St trail, Dubuque St travel lane, or
both. If on trail, participants should be aware of others using the trail (this applies to the trail in Waterworks Park as
well), and the trail should be posted with ‘Bike Race in Progress’ signs to warn trail users of higher-speed bicyclists on
the trail.
