Passed 6-0. Brown Laurian & Younker absent). May 2017 Commission Meeting ➢ Changes to Alcohol Policy for Shelter Rentals Council deferred change pending additional input from University of Iowa • July 2017 Commission Meeting ➢ Discussion of Ashton House Rentals and Use Staff Presentations Date Facilitator Topic Audience # Attendants 7/12/17 Juli Seydell Johnson Park Project Updates Noon Optimist Club 15 Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission Packet I City of Iowa City Notable from Parks & Recreation Staff Parks • The new Pheasant Hill Park Playground and Gaga pit are installed and fully functional. • The redesign of Frauenholtz-Miller Park is complete and open for dedication. • Site work has begun in Upper City Park In preparation for installation of the new playground. Recreation: Fall program guides were delivered to schools. We are continuing to evaluate the reach of the printed guide and looking at alternative ways to market our services. • New programs for the fall include Night Hikes at Hickory Hill Park, Wilderness Survival course, drop in Gaga Ball, • All splash pads have been closed for the season. City Park pool will stay open for limited lap swim through September. Cemetery: • The 3 seasonal staff members at the cemetery have ended employment and returned to school. The cemetery has hired another student for 25hrs/week for the fall season. Facilities: • City Park Cabin- North Construction's subcontractor, Heritage Woodworks, has been carefully inventorying and deconstructing the cabins, they will be moving the structure, and restoring the logs in their workshop in Clemens, Iowa. • Robert A. Lee Recreation Center Remodeling Project- received six bids, Tricon General Construction was awarded the contract. Pre -construction meeting on September 11th, demolition to commence in October. • City Hall, Mercer, RALRC HVAC/BAS study in progress- Rebates have been filed for all projects with MidAmerican. An amendment for Mercer/Scanlon HVAC and Boiler Replacement design through construction administration executed. Equipment inventory complete. • RALRC STEAM mural —team brought structure to site to test fit the mural, electrical components added to wall. • Mercer STEAM mural- LED lighting, electrical drops are complete and ready for installation. Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission Packet I City of Iowa City Top Staff Issues Parks • Staffing is a challenge this time of year with many temporary staff members returning to school and finishing their term limits. • Vandalism and graffiti has been on the rise in the last few weeks. Recreation Staff hiring continues to be the single largest challenge for the Recreation division. Cemetery Staff has be putting up enclosures around all young trees to protect against the deer Staff worked to remove the damaged pillar at the entrance of the cemetery.. Facilities • Project Green has an agreement with the City to have an office in Ashton House, the maintenance staff have been working with the new occupants on maintenance items. • Staff continue to prepare for end of summer season maintenance, filter and belt changes in RALRC, Mercer/Scanlon, City Hall and Fire Stations. • Aquatics maintenance staff are starting fall prep for pools and splash pads. • Dog day for City Park Pool is scheduled for September 30th Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission Packet I City of Iowa City Project Timeline Status Facilities - HVAC Control Software Multi -year Implementation for all City Buildings ($535,000 CIP) Project mid -way.
