HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020 ALR Roundabout Oversize Vehicles 01032020Roundabouts are designed to accommodate
vehicles of all sizes.
The roundabout at American Legion Road and Scott
Boulevard is designed with a truck apron, a raised
section of pavement around the central island
that acts as an extra lane for large vehicles when
required. The back wheels of the oversize vehicle
can ride up on the truck apron so the truck can
easily complete the turn, while the raised portion of
concrete discourages use by smaller vehicles.
The images to the left show typical large truck
movements within the roundabout at American
Legion Road and Scott Boulevard. Note how the
trucks use the truck apron to complete their turn in
a roundabout.
