LETTER OF APPRECIATION
To the Staff of the Iowa City Senior Center,
Every year our families, friends and coworkers face the ups and downs that accompany moving
forward in this thing we call life. Some years, one extraordinary event affects our community as
a whole. We are reminded of the tornado of 2006 which ripped through the heart of Iowa City or
the flood of 2008 when the Iowa River cut Iowa City in two. Over the course of the past year,
our community has worked its way through multiple historic challenges as varied in nature as in
difficulty to address. Persistent community -wide issues have come at us all with such
frequency, severity and breadth that we can not help but wonder what new, unexpected
challenge must we rise to meet as we greet the new day sun. However, we are all, each of us,
an important part of what makes Iowa City such a caring and resilient community. As we have
risen from the rubble of a tornado and as we bridged the damage caused from the flood to make
Iowa City an even stronger community so shall we rise to meet the challenges of today.
It is in this spirit that this Letter of Appreciation is written and delivered from the Commissioners
of the Senior Center to its hard-working and persistently courageous staff. As the signs say
around town, you are heroes! Your continued commitment to providing care -filled and quality
services to the members of The Center has not gone unnoticed. We applaud all you do every
day for our community with whole -hearted vigor! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
The day will come where we finally make our way through the multitude of new events hitting
our community and come out on the other side to whatever the "new normal' may be. When
that day comes, we look forward to seeing each and every one of you on the other side. We
look forward to the honor of shaking your hands in respect, admiration and gratitude. May we
all have the chance to smile and greet each other free from the trials of the present day
someday soon.
With admiration and respect,
Senior Center Commission.
