Navigate to the Iowa City Home Page (https://www.icgov.org/)
Hover over the “City Government” Tab
Move and hover over “Departments and Divisions”.
Then move and hover over “Neighborhood & Development Services.”
Move and hover over “Development services”.
Then move and hover over either “Building Inspection Services”, or “Urban Planning”
Move from “Building Inspection Services” and Click on “Permit Information”.
Alternatively
Move and hover from the “City Government” tab to “Divisions and Departments”, then to “Public
Works”, and finally click to “Permit Information”.
OR move from “Urban Planning” and Click on
“Permit Information”.
All three of the “Permit Information” buttons lead you to the Iowa City Permit Information Page.
Then this link to direct to the CSS Home Page.
Or click this link (https://egov.iowa-city.org/energovprod/selfservice#/home)
Click on the “Search Public Records” tab to bring up the search options
Type any keywords or addresses, then hit “Search”
This screen brings up all results in the public record, with all case info available. (EXC is the 3 letter
designation for special exception application. These applications fall into the plan category.)
For each record type (except “All”) there is an “advanced” option. Which allows for more specific search
criteria.
Clicking the “Advanced” tab drops down this menu.
Select options in “Plan Type” or “Status” to narrow down the results.
Here is an Example
Using the advanced search for “Plans” choose Plan Type: “Special Exception” and Status: “Denied”
The Search gives us 22 results.
Each Case has a lot of information attached to it.
Plan Number is how the City organizes all the cases it receives.
EXC is the type designation for Special Exceptions
15 indicates that the plan was submitted in 2015
00010 indicates that this plan was the 10th EXC case that year
Main Parcel is the number designation for each piece of land within Iowa City (and Johnson County).
Address is the address associated with the special exception application.
This parcel number combined with the address allows the City to find exactly which property is
asking for this special exception.
Description is a short sentence about why the person is applying for a special exception.
Hitting the “Reset” Button returns to the “Search All” search bar.
