Minutes: Senior Center Commission, Thursday, November 18, 2021 Preliminary Minutes November 18, 2021 1 MINUTES SENIOR CENTER COMMISSION November 18, 2021 Members Present: Jeannie Beckman, Zach Goldsmith, Lorraine Dorfman, Angela McConville, Paula Vaughan, Linda Vogel Members Absent: None Staff Present: LaTasha DeLoach, Kristin Kromray Others Present: None CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by McConville at 4 PM. RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL: None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 21, 2021 MEETING: Motion: To accept the minutes from the October 21, 2021 meeting with clerical correction. Motion carried on a vote of 6/0. Goldsmith/Dorfman. PUBLIC DISCUSSION: None. OPERATIONAL OVERVIEW: DeLoach reported the program guide for November and December is currently available. The Senior Center will be doing two-month program cycles for the foreseeable future. Programming is categorized into the four pillars of the Senior Centers mission: wellness, social connections, lifelong learning, and community engagement. The Senior Center continues to offer both online and in person classes. The Friends of The Center winter appeal letter was sent to the printer today. DeLoach reported the Mic Check Poetry Fest was held at the Senior Center on November 5th. The event was very successful and had a large and diverse crowd in attendance. Preliminary Minutes November 18, 2021 2 DeLoach reported the master plan report continues to be in the final stages. The capital improvement plan (CIP) for fiscal years 22-26 has been approved. The Senior Center now has 6.1 million dollars over the next 5 years. About half of that is earmarked for exterior projects and the remainder for interior improvements. COMMISSION DISCUSSION: McConville asked when OPN would be presenting the building master plan report to the Commission. DeLoach thought it would occur in January. McConville reported the Senior Center commission report to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors has been rescheduled for December 1st at 9 AM. McConville and DeLoach will be attending. McConville reapplied to be the Johnson County representative on the commission. Staff reported she was the only applicant. It is the responsibility of the city council appointed commission members to appoint the Johnson County representative. Motion: To appoint Angela McConville as the Johnson County representative on the Senior Center Commission for a term of three years. Motion carried on a vote of 5/0. Goldsmith/ Beckman McConville reported the chair, vice chair, and secretary seats for the next calendar year are normally appointed in December. The current executive committee, comprised of McConville, Goldsmith, and Vogel will be the nominating committee. McConville inquired if anyone was interested in being chair. Beckman stated she would be comfortable being vice chair. Vaughn and Vogel stated they were not interested. Dorfman and Goldsmith’s terms end in December. Douglas Korty has been appointed by the City Council for one of these seats. This leaves one full term and one partial term open. Beckman would like to add parking to the agenda for next month. She stated she had a VNA client who could not find parking and it was difficult for him to walk from the location where he did find parking. McConville asked if the Commission would be interested in a presentation from Johnson County’s mobility coordinator, Kelly Schneider. She stated she would be helpful in a situation like Beckman discussed. The Commission agreed it would be helpful to hear from her. McConville said she would reach out to her to see if she would be available for the December meeting. Motion: To Adjourn.
