HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 Tree Planting Notification Dear Resident, The City of Iowa City is planning a street tree planting project in your neighborhood. The project goal is to increase tree-lined streets, while improving our tree canopy coverage and supporting our climate action initiatives. In the coming months, trees will be planted in the City-owned rights-of-way in your neighborhood. A map of the project extents can be found on the City website at: https://www.icgov.org/project/iowa-city-park-projects Trees appropriate to each planting location will be selected from a diverse species list. Species diversity is important to limit the impact of any future tree pests or diseases. The diversity will achieve an attractive, resilient, and beneficial tree canopy in your neighborhood. The trees will work to clean the air, soak up runoff, reduce utility bills, increase property values, and beautify the area. There is no cost to those receiving a tree and the City of Iowa City Forestry Division will provide ongoing maintenance of the tree throughout its life at no cost to the property owner. Not all properties in the neighborhood will receive trees. Planting locations will be selected with care to ensure existing trees, utilities, and infrastructure are conducive to tree planting. If you have questions or comments about this planting project, we can be reached by email at tyler-baird@iowa-city.org or phone at (319)356-5100 ext. 2069. We are excited to plant some shade and beautify your neighborhood. Thank you! Sincerely, Tyler Baird Superintendent of Parks & Forestry
