To Whom It May Concern:
I have been asked by Joseph Mungai, as his former supervisor, to share with you some
information regarding his employment history and experience, which I am happy to do.
Joseph worked at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital as our hospital social worker from
August 2012 through March 2014. He was part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of
treatment staff, administration and direct-care workers
The Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH) is licensed by the Iowa Department of
Inspections and Appeals and provides forensic services including competency evaluations,
restoration for competency, evaluations for Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and
inpatient hospitalization for acutely mentally ill individuals with diagnoses such as
schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, bipolar and other mood disorders,
depression, anxiety, and intellectual disabilities. The Hospital is licensed by the Iowa
Department of Inspections and Appeals.
Joseph's role as our social worker was to work on the restoration and testing materials with
the patients in need of competency evaluations or restoration. He managed the weekly
patient meetings and communicated well with the doctor, nurse and other unit staff as to
the wellness and/or comprehension of the patient. He was very organized and self-
motivated. He was knowledgeable about mental illnesses and adjusted his style to the
needs of the patient. He was also very willing to assist staff who were working with
individuals who did not speak English; he acted as a translator. He provided ideas and
suggestions while working with a very difficult mental health population, and was always
willing to listen to others' ideas and concerns and helped however he could.
Joseph's work on FPH required clear and organized documentation, not only for our
internal work, but for the outside evaluators' work. It was imperative that he provide what
was necessary and required for the evaluators to conduct their assessments. In order to do
this, he had to be detailed and organized and always prepared to obtain the necessary
documentation for the evaluator. He was methodic and systematic. The evaluators were
pleased with his work and his attention to detail.
Additionally, Joseph has did an outstanding job during his tenure with FPH by acquiring
placements for extremely difficult individuals. He was very patient with the process and
kept contact with providers always ensuring they had the information that they needed to
make the best decision for the patient. He has the valuable skill of connecting people

and building relationships with agencies. This has proven helpful time and time again
while working on patient placements as well as patient admissions and evaluations.
It was truly my pleasure to work with Joseph, and we were all disappointed to see him
leave.
I hope this letter is of some help to you, and if you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

To Whom This May Concern,
I am honored to be able to write this letter of recommendation on the behalf of Joseph
Mungai. Joseph was my social worker for the Department of Veterans Affairs for several
years and he will be sadly missed. He has had to overcome many obstacles in his own
life and many transitions. The largest change being his move to the United States,
learning our culture, and overcoming the barriers of a new country. But Joseph has that
special ability to learn quickly, be very open minded, and has a drive that has no equal.
He is above excellent at verbal communication, speaking very clearly and precise, and
ensuring that his listener understands his intents very well. Joseph is extremely
dedicated not only to his work but also to the people he represents and looks after. He
is extremely loyal, diligent, well dressed, professional in every manner and a true team
player. Joseph always double checks his work to ensure that the best effort was given
to the solution and will settle for nothing less. In short, I have never known Joseph to
give less than 110% effort at any given time. He is extremely intelligent, has an above
manner at all times, and will represent any company or organization at the highest of
standards. I am confident that not only will Joseph meet the standard bar at any place
but more importantly he will arise above it. I have witnessed several times Joseph going
long hours beyond what was required due to quality of his character. Any company or
organization should immediately consider Joseph for there employment for he is a
diamond beyond measure and will be a star amongst your peers.
Most Sincerely,
Jeff Pearson
