As a black woman in the healthcare industry I could relate with my black patients as they were admitted to the hospital for dehydration, but care was delayed sometimes as they did not present with the same symptoms as a caucasian patient. If a healthcare worker had never seen a dehydrated 83 year old male before they were unsure how to treat or even what symptoms to assess. For the last 24 years as a healthcare worker13 years as an ICU nurse, and the last 4 years a Nurse practitioner in ICU/ER, with the last 3 years on the frontline during COVID, and seeing the readmission of patients to the hospital for dehydration. I wanted to change my part in the healthcare system. I started to educate myself more on the vitamins and what I could do to improve my patients and the community. Iowa residents should and want to improve their overall quality of life, and as a healthcare provider it's my job to provide them with services that can offer them just that. As I continue to learn and teach patients, healthcare workers, and students on the differences vitamins I became more and more excited about the services I can deliver to my community. This information was a very small study I did prior to opening as an analysis of the area. Introduction: Dehydration is a potentially preventable complication post- covid/pneumonia patients and can result in an Emergency Department visit and/or readmission. Our objectives were to identify risk factors for dehydration readmissions and develop interventions to prevent them. Methods: I used retrospective chart reviews to determine if increased intravenous (IV) hydration post-covid prevented hospital readmissions for dehydration. All adults 18-90 years who underwent hospitalization (without ICU admission) between December 1, 2021 and December 1, 2022 were included in this quality improvement study. Using the Hospital Health Information System database, patients who experienced a readmission for dehydration within 72 hours of admission for covid were identified and validated with internal data. I analyzed the pre-implementation and post-implementation readmission rates after standardization of increased IV fluids (1.5 times maintenance). An interrupted time series analysis was used to estimate the effects of hydration initiative. Results: Of 11,157 patients who underwent hospitalization during the study period, 96 (0.9%) met the criteria for readmissions for dehydration. The pre-implementation readmission rate was 1% compared to 0.2% post-implementation, a reduction of 82%. Conclusions: The hydration initiative was associated with a significant decrease in hospital readmissions. This safe, low-cost, easy-to-implement approach to preventing dehydration re-admission could be explored in Johnson County which can improve our residents quality of life. While providing relief to our frontline staff to attend to critical and urgent care. I feel this does align with the Economic development plan and city council strategic plan for Johnson County. This expansion of services will create more jobs for Johnson county residents. It would provide support to our frontline staff who are overworked and burnt out with the readmission rate to the hospitals. It would also show residents that the Iowa City Councils members are helping support services that can and will improve the community health. (example of the good I am currently doing, a 47 year old female shared after getting her IV infusion that she is wanting to start getting Botox as she is needing to return to work after injury as the cost of living and groceries are increasing. She stated she is nervous because when she looks in the mirror and she appears to be old then stated age, which lead her to become depressed and isolated. I purchased the botox and called her to inform her when she decided she wanted to give it a try I will provide the services at no cost to her). I will end with saying she was able to stop her antidepressant medication working full time, remains a resident of Iowa and now she is able to provide her services to the community. Preliminary timeline six months or less, as the location is stated above. I feel that the 806 22ns Ave #3, has the layout in place already, which could allow a grand opening sooner, cosmetics and purchasing of medical equipment is needed.. I have potential staff to join the team, with an overhead to open would be ~ 175-200K (which would include, rent ~1 year, medical supplies, business insurance, construction) . I would ask for help locating a grant manager to assist me with the ongoing submission for future grants. I currently feel that I have some community support, however being awarded additional funds will help me grow as a black owned business in Johnson county. Work completed as of April 2023, I was able to open my current location 1 week earlier than my estimated date. By believing in my dream, I applied for personal loans, friends and family donated to my dream, withdrew from my 401K and received a stipend from my current landlord which helped with supplies and decor for my current location.
