Parking rates to increase starting July 1 On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the Iowa City Council approved an increase in rates for street parking and parking ramps for the first time since 2013. This comes as maintenance costs for parking facilities have increased significantly, and the current revenue from parking fees covers only 22% of the Parking Division’s budget. Summary of changes: • Street parking will be $3/hour in the Central Business District (CBD), up from $1.50. Parking outside the CBD will be $1.50/hour. • Ramp parking will be $2/hour, up from $1. First-hour free parking will remain and be added to Chauncey Swan Ramp and Harrison Street Ramp, which previously did not offer this discount. • Expired meter: First offense will remain a warning. Subsequent offenses will increase to $10, $15, $20, $30, and $40, up from $7, $12, $15, $20, and $25 respectively. • Commercial loading zone parking: First offense will remain $25. Second offense will increase from $25 to $40. • Handicapped parking will increase from $100 to $200. For more info, visit icgov.org/parkingFAQs or contact the Parking Office at 319-356-5151.
