HomeMy WebLinkAboutFree Lunch Additional AttachmentThe Free Lunch Program is supported by over 30 dedicated volunteer
teams. Each team plays an essential role in providing meals to vulnerable
populations in Johnson County, particularly in Iowa City and Coralville, and/or
supporting the operations of our program through facility/meal clean-up.
These teams represent a diverse cross-section of the community, including
the following groups:
Agudas Achim Congregation, Coralville

Christ the King Lutheran Church, Iowa City
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Iowa City

Each of these teams donates time, energy, and resources to ensure that the
program can serve its guests with compassion and dignity. Each lunch is
deliberately prepared to include at least 1 protein serving (with a vegetarian
option), 1 grain serving, 2 fruits/vegetable serving (often more and usually
fresh), 1 dairy serving, and 1 enjoyable dessert (see pictures below). We rarely
have leftovers because we offer the guests the option of taking home
containers of food to eat later, or for friends or family who cannot come to our
facility during serving hours.
To further capture the spirit of the Free Lunch Program, we invite you to take a
look at some photos showcasing both volunteers in action and the vibrant
community atmosphere during mealtimes. While we cannot show the
connections formed in our program to protect the privacy of our guests, we
hope these images illustrate not only the care that goes into every meal but
also the love and energy of our volunteers. From bustling kitchen scenes to
shared laughter at the tables, the essence of what makes the Free Lunch
Program so special are the community members who come together to help
one another with generosity and kindness.
