Residents in Iowa City pay less than $0.01 per gallon of drinking water delivered to the home any time of day. By comparison, bottled water from unknown sources and facilities costs more than $2.00 to $12.00 per gallon, and is often just repackaged municipal water. Iowa City drinking water is treated at the publicly-owned and operated facility north of Interstate 80. The facility and distribution system are staffed by trained and dedicated professionals and regulated by local, state, and federal agencies. Information about your drinking water is published annually in the Consumer Confidence Report available on the City’s website. The next time you see a penny, know it’s worth the investment in your local infrastructure – and help save the world from another plastic bottle!
