Job Summary
Installs, modifies and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware, printer hardware and
software systems. Provides technical assistance to system users.
Job Scope
No supervisory responsibilities. No budget responsibilities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects personal computer equipment and reads order sheet listing user requirements to prepare
equipment for delivery.
Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing or spreadsheet
programs into computer in support of information technology system standards.
Installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as
monitors, keyboards, printers and disk drives on user's premises.
Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation.
Analyzes and diagnoses system hardware, software and operator problems.
Recommends and/or performs problem resolution.
Provides updates, status and completion information to Information Technology Services
Coordinator, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person
communication.
Maintains and creates records descriptions according to established procedures.
Maintains documentation, program listings, layouts and other records in support of development,
modification or problem resolving efforts.
Assists with training efforts of new systems implementation, including documentation, instruction and
hands-on training of others.

Maintains working knowledge of PC to server and server to PC interface.
Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operation.
Instructs users in use of equipment, software and manuals.
Coordinates activities with ITS Help Desk and other Information Technology System groups.
Accurately estimates effort required for assigned tasks.
Prioritizes tasks and communicates status to team members.
Refers major hardware problems to Voice Data Network Analyst, Senior Systems Engineer or vendor
service personnel for correction.
On occasion, may perform higher classified work for the purpose of training and professional
development.
Places out of service equipment on government deals website.
Writes install procedures for software programs and/or updates current procedures.
Updates time and billing.
Moves items from different departments to Information Technology Systems and/or Tower Place.
Works with various software companies to ensure product works on City network.
Participates in on-call rotation; checks commands nightly while in rotation.
Researches new software for users to purchase.
Documents installation procedures so if the computers need a reinstallation there is a process
documented.
Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.
The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
Associate’s degree in business, MIS or computer science from an educational institution accredited by
a DOE recognized accreditation body required. Or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience and Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body
preferred. Three years of related experience and/or training preferred. Experience with virtual
desktop infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak
effectively before groups of employees of organization. Ability to solve practical problems and deal
with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to
interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Knowledge of
Microsoft Office software, Adobe, McAfee Anti-virus and other relevant software.
