HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWII - PoolsCITY OF IOWA CITY - Job Description Job Class #05-10 FLSA Non-Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Maintenance Worker II - Pools Department: Parks & Recreation Division: Government Buildings Supervisor: Facilities Manager Job Summary Under general direction, performs all aspects of maintenance, security and cleaning duties of buildings and grounds in various city facilities. The primary focus of this position is the maintenance and repair of Aquatics systems and mechanical and plumbing systems within aquatics facilities. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates with the Recreation Superintendent to ensure all aquatics assignments are properly carried out. Performs backwashing on pool filtration systems; inspects and repairs system as needed. Helps coordinate assistance for annual pool maintenance; vacuums pools and adds chemicals to pool water as needed. Inspects automatic chemical delivery system chemical level, adds chemicals as needed; inspects, cleans and repairs system. Monitors water chemistry and makes corrections as needed either manually or via computerized controller systems. Changes and handles liquid and granular chemical tanks and containers. Provides for the safety of patrons, staff and self. Cleans all areas of assigned buildings. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and waxes floors. Washes windows and lockers. Cleans restrooms and empties trash. Repairs and maintains electrical and plumbing fixtures. Repairs roof. Makes repairs resulting from vandalism to facilities. Job Class #05-10 Government Buildings Page 2 Updated 8/30/2016 Paints, caulks, replaces ceiling tile, replaces filters, and unloads trucks. Reports the need for other repairs. Maintains grounds. Removes snow in winter months; trims shrubs and mows grass. Cleans swimming pool decks and makes repairs to shower areas as needed. Works with contractors in construction, remodeling and maintenance of assigned buildings. Repairs a variety of Recreation equipment. Repairs coin operated lockers. Removes money from lockers and machines and transfers money to appropriate personnel. Prepares requisitions for equipment, supplies and other materials needed for Recreation maintenance. Orders hardware and cleaning supplies for Recreation facilities and maintains adequate inventory. Maintains records of work activities. Schedules needed work. Coordinates and participates in daily and periodic maintenance work at assigned facilities. Works with courts, halfway houses and schools to secure no cost hourly staff. Watches for people causing problems at the facility; asks them to leave or calls for police. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification One year of experience in building maintenance, including general plumbing, heating, electrical and mechanical maintenance required. Certified Pool Operator Certification required. Must become automated external defibrillator, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid certified within six months of hire. Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass a background check. Preferred Education, Experience and Certification Three to five years of experience in building maintenance, including general plumbing, heating, electrical and mechanical maintenance preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in a public building. Knowledge of custodial materials and equipment. Skills in the operation of various cleaning equipment including pool vacuums, floor scrubbers and wet vacuums, transfer pumps, lawn mowers, and snow blower. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and understand work orders, recreation rules, and maintain written job records. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and take measurements.
