HomeMy WebLinkAboutParking Enforcement AttendentCITY OF IOWA CITY - Job Description Job Class # 03-07 FLSA Non-Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Parking Enforcement Attendant Department: Transportation Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Operations Supervisor Job Summary Under immediate direction, patrols and issues tickets for illegal parking violations to customers in the City’s parking facilities and streets. Answers questions and provides directions to the general public. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Patrols City parking ramps, streets, alleys and lots; issues tickets for illegal parking at prohibited zones. Enforces parking meters. Chalks vehicles in loading zones and issues tickets if vehicle is over time limit; calls for wrecker service as needed. Checks vehicles for impound; impounds vehicles at direction of office; transports persons to pay outstanding tickets. Performs cashier duties on a relief basis; receives parking tickets from customers; collects money and makes change in the City’s parking facilities. Answers questions and gives directions to customers; directs problems or concerns to appropriate City department; assists customers, as needed. Reports vandalism, auto accidents, debris and faulty equipment on City parking facilities and on City streets; appears in court to testify for City; answers appeals for tickets in question. Picks up mail, delivers papers to various departments and answers phone as needed. Operates City vehicles in performance of duties. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop or kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles, darkness or poor lighting and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification One year customer service experience required. Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass a criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience and Certification None specified. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of City parking codes. Knowledge of all parking validation procedures. Skills in operation of computer, cash register and adding machine. Skills in observation and communication. Ability to read and understand written materials to record work activities or keep records. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to reconcile payments and handle money.
