HomeMy WebLinkAboutMar1920COVID19order - taxisMAYOR'S ORDER RE: DEADLINES FOR TAXI BUSINESS LICENSE AND TAXI DRIVER ATHORIZATION Pursuant to the powers vested in me as Mayor under Section 372.14 of the Iowa Code, Section 8-1-2 of the City Code of Iowa City, and the Mayor's Proclamation of Civil Emergency signed March 18, 2020, 1 deem it advisable that the deadlines for taxicab business licenses be extended by two months and the authorizations for drivers and the requirement for annual taxicab inspections be similarly extended. I hereby ORDER effective immediately: 1. Regarding Sections 5-2-2A and 2B of the Iowa City City Code: I temporarily suspend the May 1 and June 1 deadlines for taxicab business licenses. Current taxicab business licenses shall be extended two months and expire July 31, 2020. The deadline for submission of applications for taxicab business licenses for the 2020-2021 year shall be extended by two months to July 1, 2020. 2. Regarding Section 5-2-4133 of the Iowa City City Code: I temporarily suspend the one- year period of validity of a taxi driver's authorization to operate a taxicab. All driver authorizations that expire on or after March 18, 2020 shall continue to be valid until July 31, 2020. 3. Regarding Section 5-2-5A of the Iowa City City Code: I temporarily suspend the annual inspection of taxicabs. All taxicabs must pass inspection before July 31, 2020. 4. Regarding Section 5-2-5D of the Iowa City City Code: I temporarily suspend the requirement that the taxicab business have four taxicabs insured and a decal until July 31, 2020. 5. Regarding Section 5-2-6F of the Iowa City City Code: I temporarily suspend the requirement that the bubble light and lettering be removed within 2 days if the business is returning the decal in order to save money on insurance during this civil emergency and the vehicle does not operate on City streets.
