HomeMy WebLinkAboutSupport Services SupervisorCITY OF IOWA CITY – Job Description Job Class #26-12 FLSA Exempt Civil Service Identification Position Title: Support Services Supervisor Department: Police Division: Support Services Supervisor: Support Services Captain Job Summary Directs, manages and supervises the Records division and Station Masters division for the Iowa City Police Department. Job Scope May provide recommendations for departmental budget. Directly supervises civilian administrative employees and School Crossing Guards. Manages the in-house records and computer system and performs general and specialized clerical functions. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Supervises records management. Responsible for current and accurate system for storage and retrieval of all departmental records and files in accordance with state and federal laws. Interviews and recommends hiring of personnel; trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time employees assigned to Records, Station Master and other civilian employees as assigned. Interviews, recommends hiring and schedules School Crossing Guards. Directs work of community volunteers. Monitors the unit’s expenditures on monthly basis. Supervises preparation of numerous reports and documents for the public and other agencies; acts as liaison and interfaces with other criminal justice agencies. Performs administrative and clerical duties as assigned. Performs payroll functions in absence of Administrative Coordinator. Verifies records for monthly Incident Based Reporting data submission to field services. Responds to Court/DOT subpoenas and public information requests for records. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification High school diploma or equivalent required. One year of additional training or related experience beyond high school in the area of office management or a clerical field required. NCIC certification required within one year of hire date. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience and Certification Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body preferred. One year of supervision and computer operations preferred. Five years of related experience and/or training preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of computer software and hardware for police records or related system and maintenance of a records system. Good knowledge of general office policies and procedures. Skills in computer operation, supervision and office management. Ability to read and interpret state laws, reports and updates regarding records management. Ability to complete a variety of written reports. Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
