East Side Bike to SchooLMercer Park and Aquatic Center and SCOTT PARK OFF-LEASH DOG PARK Lemme School Lucas School Court Hill Park Chadek Green Hoover School Lower West Branch Road COURT HILL TRAIL & NEW SCHOOL BIKEWAYS The Court Hill Trail provides a useful foundation for bicycle commuting to school from neigh- borhoods in east Iowa City. Bicyclists will navigate two short (one-block) sections of riding on Arbor Drive and Brookside Drive— both low volume streets. Crossings at Scott Blvd. and 1st Avenue both have pedestrian refuge islands and are marked for cars to yield to pedestrians and bicyclists. Be sure to look both ways and make eye contact with drivers (to ensure they see you) before entering the road way. For students traveling from the Longfellow Neighborhood, series of rela- tively low-volume streets are marked with BIKEWAY and wayfinding signs to help navigate to South East Jr. High and City High. Students who bicycle or walk on sidwalks should watch for cars at all inter- sections and driveways. Be especially alert to turning traiffc, including those turning right on red. Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you. Get ready to ride or walk to South East & City High McPherson Park Look for the BLUE Bikeway signs and GREEN directional signs to help guide you to school along these on- street routes. SHERIDAN AVE 7th AVENUE Court Street 1st Avenue Muscatine Avenue Two short sections of on-street riding are required n this area. A bike ride from Scott Park to Southeast Junior high will take about 15 minutes. This popular trail is well shaded for hot days. Walking and biking are good training for future teen- age drivers.
