In order to improve your brain, it's necessary to
understand how it works. In this course you will learn
how the brain is organized, how it develops, and how
messages are transmitted through the brain's
electrochemical pathways. Neuroscientists like to say
that "cells that fire together wire together." Think of
brain circuits like friendships: Those that are
maintained and enriched will endure, while those that
are neglected disappear. In this video lecture series
you will learn how diet, exercise, and sleep are optimal
for brain function. No class on 11/22. Membership
required.
Food, Science, and the Human Body

Facilitator: Michelle Buhman
What we eat is central to our daily lives—now, as well
as in our past. People have always been intricately
tethered to the food that they eat. Subsistence has
been linked with not only watershed moments in
human evolution, such as brain expansion and
cooperation, but also pivotal points in world history.
Increasingly, we are learning that what we eat affects
our bodies, in both positive and negative ways, and is
linked with our health, culture, identity, and even our
genes. In this broad-sweeping video lecture series we
will take a look at the history and biology of human
nutrition, from the Paleolithic period to the 21st
century. No class on 11/23. Membership required.

Visitors to the Senior Center are required to wear a
face covering that covers the nose and mouth at all
times while in the building. Masks and hand
sanitizer are available at each entrance.
The Senior Center cannot require proof of
vaccination as a condition of entry/participation.
Please continue taking personal precautions.
Many people prefer to maintain physical distance
from others while visiting The Center. Please res-
pect individual boundaries of other participants.
Clean fitness equipment after use with provided
sanitizing wipes.
Stay home if you are sick or do not feel well.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the
inside of your elbow; throw away used tissues.
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least
20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom,
blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Occupancy and time limits may be applied to some
spaces in The Center to allow for extra distance
between visitors and more time to sanitize rooms.
