NationalCancerSurvivorsDay(June6) Post-TraumaticStressDisorder(PTSD)AwarenessMonth Alzheimer’sandBrainAwarenessMonth Juneteenth(June19) CaribbeanAmericanHeritageMonthLGBTQ+PrideMonth AccordingtotheUSDepartmentofVeteransAffairs,peoplelivingwith PTSD—whethertheyareVeteransorciviliansurvivorsofsexualassault, seriousaccidents,naturaldisasters,orothertraumaticevents—needto knowthattreatmentsreallydoworkandcanleadtoabetterqualityoflife. AccordingtotheAlzheimer’sAssociation,50 millionpeoplearelivingwithAlzheimer’sand otherdementiasworldwide. Juneteenth-alsoknownasFreedomDay,JubileeDay,Liberation Day,andEmancipationDay–istheoldestnationallycelebrated commemorationoftheendingofslaveryintheUnitedStates. OnJune5,2006,PresidentGeorgeBushsignedanofficialresolution declaringNationalCaribbeanAmericanHeritageMonthinJune.Ninety percentofCaribbeanimmigrantscomefromfivecountries:Cuba, DominicanRepublic,Jamaica,Haiti,andTrinidadandTobago.Celebratethe vibrantcultures,traditions,languages,andvaluesofCaribbeanAmericans thatstrengthenourcountry. Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual,TransgenderandQueer(LGBTQ)PrideMonthis currentlycelebratedeachyearinthemonthofJunetohonorthe1969 StonewallUprisinginManhattan.Whatbeganas“GayPrideDay”hasnow becomeamonth-longobservancewithmillionsofparticipantsaroundthe worldtorecognizetheimpactthatlesbian,gay,bisexualandtransgender individualshavehadonhistorylocally,nationally,andinternationally.
