I don't think this is a good use of money, and I hope there is a committee of Seniors who use t he Center on regular basis involv ed and giving feedbac k . 11/8/2020 11:28 AM 14 to give s erious res ponse, this took too long. Would have been better to have this question first and comments along the way. After s tudy ing the plans again, I will have more comments . Where can I s end them without bothering to go through the long series of questions ? Here is what I ent ered onc e given a c hance to comment: 1. Need more comment space on this surv ey. 2. I doubt that v ery many people are really going to st udy the drawings in detail. 3. KEEP the front Entrance as-is on Linn St. There is PLENTY to s pace to add a ramp between the two entranc es. Otherwise this remodeling is a waste of time and money. 4. Regardless, need bic y c le parking at the Washington Street Entranc e. 5. There is NO car parking on Washington Street. Why not jus t allow the Seats bus and taxis good ac cess in the alley at the ramp. 6. Washington s t is farther from the c ity bus s tops . 7. Most people use the parking ramp. 8. In Alt #3, can the two f itness studios bec ome one? Where are the doors . 9. GIven the budget the SC is NOT going to s taff 2 rec eption areas. 10. You asked us to rate t he Conference Area. Where is it in the ex ist ing plan? 11. I think all of this is a waste of time and 11/8/2020 10:41 AM Iowa City Senior Center Fac ilities Plan Public Input Survey 56 / 58 money. Just put a ramp on the Linn St reet entranc e and a bic y cle rack at the Linn Street entranc e. 15 I like the grouping of same/s imilar functions on the s ame levels .11/7/2020 4:33 PM 16 Entrance s hould be welcoming, open, with clear signage. Please do not us e ex c lamation marks . 11/6/2020 3:16 PM 17 Outside area faces South and is too hot and bright to be us eful mos t days. Add c offee and vending to option 3 entranc e. May be c offee to 3rd floor reception. Game area on level 3 may interfere with corridoor. Will there be handicap park ing on Washington? Will there be lunch serv ed? Will there still be newspapers? Is there enough chair and table storage? 11/6/2020 12:47 PM 18 We feel that the current senior center is VERY ADEQUATE for the needs of Iowa City Seniors . Mov ing the entrance to the side of the building would be very inc onv enient for all of us who use the parking ramp! 11/6/2020 12:26 PM 19 IC c itizens are extremely fortunate to hav e a senior center of such a high quality relatively easily available. The building is beautiful although not well des igned for the c urrent purpos e. I hope the program will be us ed by a more diverse group of c itiz ens as time goes by. 11/3/2020 8:30 PM 20 The Senior Center is a GEM and one we should appreciate and support wit h enthus iasm and money. 11/3/2020 3:30 PM 21 1) I lik e and dis like as pects of all three Alternat ives . Generally, but with ex c eptions in each case, I prefer the the two lower Levels of Alternative 3 and the two upper Levels of Alternative 2. 2) Communit y groups who utiliz e the fac ility need s ecure Long-Term s torage for items that they rout inely use with their regular us e of the meeting spaces . These should be inside or near the meet ing/classroom where t he group regularly meets. 3) In lieu of lockers in Shower Room or Corridor, would cubbies in the Fitness Rooms be acceptable as Short-Term storage for users' pers onal items while they are in the room? 11/2/2020 5:10 PM 22 I would like one of the fitnes s room to be able to eas ily ac c ommodate a larger group - perhaps up to 20. And preferably hav e a small s tage for the instructor offering better vis ibility. Can you have warming st ations, tables for eating, and a canopy on t he s econd Washington St patio so it c an be us ed in "non perfect" weather i.e. driz z ly springtime, and c ooler falls - acc es s ible only from inside. Will there be privac y s c reens on the c onferenc e rooms? 11/2/2020 3:45 PM 23 I only picked plan 2 bc it was forc ed, don’t really hav e a preferenc e. I really only us e one space (Assembly Room) and the c hanges (part itions ) are s imilar across all three plans . Didn’t reply to sev eral questions for the s ame reason. The Cent er is a wonderful wonderful communit y meeting place, IC/JC has ev ery reason to be proud of this accomplishment . Thank you for y our vision. 11/2/2020 12:25 PM 24 I appreciate t he ability to giv e input .11/2/2020 12:00 PM 25 I'm surprised the elevator issue hasn't been correc ted in your various plans, will there be additional outdoor park ing s paces added? Now with Cov id there shouldn't be more than 2 people on an elevator and it was a long, long wait before the virus . Als o I really t hink we need a PA syst em for emergency annouc ements. 11/2/2020 8:39 AM 26 The Iowa City Senior Center is a gem. •The building is a historic structure with wonderf ul windows and priceless woodwork. •The main floor lounge is really grand. •The wes t side vest ibules are a joy to behold—and us e. •The staircase with its iron work and wood handrails is really (somet hing has t o be done about the peeling walls). I hope that if t he c it y mov es forward with renovating the Senior Center, that it "does it right." It will not be a cheap endeavor. Regarding the main floor lounge, and any of the lounges for that mat ter, what will be done to dis c ourage v agrants from s etting up camp? As far as I know, areas now where staff are vis ible do not have t his problem. I rec ogniz e that this a diffic ult problem and do not hav e a solution. 11/1/2020 7:23 PM 27 I hope the c ouncil c an find funds f or t his but not holding my breath. If remodeled I hope you can phase it in a way that keeps programming going. At 75 a year of No Fitnes s No Socializ ing is a long t ime and we are all seeing our act ive lives slipping away under quarantine. Thanks for asking. 11/1/2020 4:07 PM 28 I appreciate t he opportunity to give my feedbac k. I was invited to join the Center 7 years ago when we moved here and have not regretted it . I boas t to friends and families of how great our senior Center is , many are env ious. I know times are tough, but I certainly hope the city/count y c an c ontinue to support and uphold this important strength in our communit y. It is a 10/31/2020 11:45 AM Iowa City Senior Center Fac ilities Plan Public Input Survey 57 / 58 lifeline for many seniors , a way for them to connect t o other people. I also want to say I have been super impres s ed with the work t he s taff has done during the pandemic to ensure s afety and wellnes s for all. The z oom meetings hav e been wonderful! Maybe you might c onsider allowing non c it y/c ounty residents to join as distant members (for a fee) to allow t hem to experienc e our zoom meetings and add s ome ext ra cas h :) 29 Why does a ques tion s ay "if answer yes , …" I ans wered No to the above question so why am I still required to answer the "if yes" questions. Als o one ques tion asks to rate 1-8 and there are 6 items . Perhaps someone should read over a s urvey prior to launching it? 10/30/2020 12:18 PM 30 I wondered at s o many small c onferenc e rooms and k ios k s , but then realiz ed that with COVID there may be a need f or t hem to k eep us s afe. 10/29/2020 2:53 PM 31 We k now why Center c an't be opened, but s till s omewhat disappointed in lack of outreach and alternative programs. Plans don't addres s computer area or SCTV room. I think Zoom is here to stay and s hould be addressed as a small group or indiv idual alternativ e. Rooms f or Zoom, in other words. I have wondered if a v ideo sugges tion box might work f or t he Center folk t o air grievanc es . The Kitc hen plan seems les s t rans parent since it is s uc h a big s pace and food ins ec urity is on ev eryone's mind. The "Grab and Go" is just been c offee 95% of the time. 3% no c offee. 10/29/2020 12:33 PM 32 Just to s ay that I think it's important to put emphasis on ex erc ise rooms and to include places where people c ould work as an alternativ e to feeling homebound. Beautif ul working s paces for seniors would be a draw for me. I lik e to get out and would love to find a comfy place to write away f rom my hous e and the usual s tudent gathering plac es . Also, the proposal f or south entranc e. I like the one without the glas s . I believ e it was listed as option 1. It looks more appropriat e for the building. Simpler. Lov ely design. 10/29/2020 11:54 AM 33 Please rec onsider converting the multipurpose room on level 1 wit h thos e big windows & natural light to s ingle purpos e billiards room. Surely there is another plac e to play billiards & allow that lov ely spac e to remain av ailable to more of us. 10/29/2020 11:13 AM 34 An additional elevat or might be us eful 10/29/2020 10:43 AM 35 --10/29/2020 8:44 AM 36 Expanding spac e f or using fitnes s equipment at a s ocial distance is ess ential for the Center’s clientele. Even after this pandemic , adequate s pacing is necessary for thos e who are elderly and immune c ompromis ed. 10/29/2020 8:13 AM 37 I like thes e ideas but where is the f unding. Will you be repairing the c rac k on the north east wall of the building? 10/29/2020 12:51 AM 38 The Senior Center is a very v aluable asset to the community!10/28/2020 10:09 PM 39 The Center is a gem!10/28/2020 7:34 PM 40 Probably water under the bridge at this point but why take up a c omplete floor for exercis e relat ed ac tivities (espec ially weights and cardio). Doesn't the Rec Center off er like serv ices and is very c lose. Likewise, it s eems that there is some art related activ ity at the Rec Center(including ceramics) but t he The Center also has an art room. 10/28/2020 5:16 PM 41 I'm glad the City is interes ted in doing this project ! Partic ipation will be eas ier for people, and it will be a more desirable plac e to c ome. 10/28/2020 4:47 PM 42 none 10/28/2020 3:56 PM 43 THANK YOU for making the Center a priority -- it's a much-us ed and muc h-needed c ommunity asset. 10/28/2020 2:08 PM 44 Need one more art room and one less fitnes s room Need wall spac e for art shows and displays Coffee area near k it chen. Outdoor areas needed 10/27/2020 8:36 PM 45 I’m very excited about this c ommitment to the Center.10/27/2020 8:29 PM 46 There needs to be some ex terior signage at the c orner dis playing the day's s c hedule and special events, inviting people to attend. 10/27/2020 4:53 PM 47 MY bigges t complaint would be clos ing the facility down during s pecific times, there is not hing worse than isolation for ex tended periods of time, people need to hav e s ome social out let. 10/27/2020 3:36 PM Iowa City Senior Center Fac ilities Plan Public Input Survey 58 / 58 48 What is the purpose for the windows ov er the as s embly hall? If nois e is an issue, or if natural light is the is s ue, you may hav e to forego t hat. In addition, s uch a high ceiling is hard to heat /c ool and s ound is diffic ult to manage, espec ially for thos e hard of hearing. It might be better to utilize that spac e, as well as the spac e over the kitc hen. 10/27/2020 3:11 PM 49 There are many attendees who do not live in Iowa city or clos e enough to walk to Senior Center; I often hav e to choose what to attend based on time of day and s pace in park ing garage.....hope added safe park ing places c an be given attention. 10/27/2020 2:34 PM 50 Not a big deal, but t he big doors look like main doors for people who hav en't been there. Will thos e be changed? It would be cool to change those do they would be a balc ony, or dec k s o they would be repurposed. 10/27/2020 1:34 PM 51 None 10/27/2020 12:18 PM 52 Test ing Survey, on question #32, c an not c heck yes or no, if y ou want t o add c omments.10/13/2020 3:24 PM 53 tes t 10/5/2020 4:17 PM
