HomeMy WebLinkAboutCashier - ParkingUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Cashier – Parking Department: Transporta�on Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Opera�ons Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 2 Job Number: 0201 Job Summary Under immediate direc�on, assists parking customers using the City’s automated parking equipment and gives informa�on regarding parking policies and regula�ons. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Receives parking �ckets from customers, collects money and makes change in the City’s parking facili�es. • Uses intercom and video cameras to assist customers remotely. • Provides general informa�on to customers on City parking regula�ons and opera�ons. • Enters data from parking �ckets and valida�ons in the computer. • Counts and sorts valida�ons and reconciles totals with cash register receipts. • Prepares deposits and completes necessary forms. • Counts currency and verifies accuracy of daily start money bags and shi� fund totals. • Repairs minor equipment malfunc�ons and contacts maintenance personnel for repairs. • Greets customers and answers ques�ons. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. or pursuit of degree and one to three months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. • Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in customer service. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es Updated: March 2024 • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved writen or oral instruc�ons. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on in one-on-one and small group situa�ons to customers, clients, and other employees of the organiza�on. • Ability to read and comprehend simple instruc�ons, short correspondence, and memos. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to write simple correspondence. • Skill in the opera�on and maintenance of several office machines and equipment, cash register, computer terminal, gates and �cket spiters. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook).
