HomeMy WebLinkAboutCivilian Accreditation ManagerUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Civilian Accredita�on Manager Department: Police Division: Support Services Supervisor: Professional Standards Lieutenant FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 24 Job Number: 2410 Job Summary Under general direc�on, manages the accredita�on process for the Iowa City Police Department as well as similar con�nuous improvement processes including department inspec�ons and policy review, revision, and implementa�on. Assists in the Evidence Department as needed. Assists department personnel with travel and training planning and reconcilia�on. Acts as the account administrator for the Iowa City Police Department’s eShare Portal for asset forfeiture. Acts as the primary point of contact for the Department’s Bullet Proof Vest Partnership grant. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Manages the CALEA accredita�on program and ensures that all CALEA required reports and �me sensi�ve ac�vi�es occur as needed. • Collects source material for the prepara�on of the department's reports on con�nued compliance with CALEA standards. • Monitors accredita�on standards, updates and changes, maintains policy and procedures documents. • Maintains confiden�ality in accessing confiden�al or sensi�ve source material necessary to compile required sta�s�cs or reports. • Manages the so�ware system for policy, training and CALEA. • Maintains and conducts CALEA orienta�ons for new employees and before on-site assessments. • Manages and prepares for the yearly file reviews and the CALEA on-site assessment. • Creates and submits reports for Chief of Police. • Monitors training opportuni�es and sends out no�ces to staff, par�cipates in professional development. • Reviews department policies and recommends policy change and updates as necessary to meet CALEA standards and consistency with City policy. • Collects, documents and shelves submited evidence and property. • Disposes of evidence, seized property and found property. • Manages the eShare Portal for asset forfeiture. • Manages the so�ware system for policy in Lexipol. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in general office administra�on, record management, and computer systems. • Na�onal Crime Informa�on Center Cer�fica�on required within six months of hire. Notary Public required within one year of hire. Valid State of Iowa driver's license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year related of experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience as a CALEA accredita�on manager. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to handle, accurately count and deposit large sums of currency. • Ability to handle, package and transport fragile, expensive, and irreplaceable evidence/seized property to maintain the integrity, value, and chain of custody of these items. • Ability to operate and police vehicles. • Ability to organize evidence/seized property using current storage procedures, protocols, and computer programs. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals. • Ability to read and understand writen materials including police reports, traffic cita�ons and warrants. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of department evidence/seized property protocols. Updated: March 2024 • Knowledge of department's records management system. • Skill in opera�ng various telephone equipment. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook). Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
