Job Summary
Serves as the computer system analyst for the police department and performs general and
specialized computer/telephone func�ons. Performs maintenance and resolves issues related to
other police-related technology. Resolves hardware and so�ware problems and ques�ons.
Supports and maintains all Police Department computer so�ware and hardware, radio systems,
interview room recording, audio recording, in-car and body worn camera systems.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Coordinates prepara�on, tes�ng and implementa�on of computer programs and
systems, camera and recording systems, in-car systems for department opera�ons.
• Assists in development of computer applica�ons for the Police Department,
• Coordinates computer usage, training, hardware and so�ware maintenance and
implementa�on.
• Acts as liaison and interfaces with other city/outside agencies and outside contractors.
• Formulates computer system requirements and procedures for processing data.
• Analyzes exis�ng procedures and informa�on requirements for computer applica�ons.
• Troubleshoots computer hardware and so�ware problems; troubleshoots other police-
related technology problems; and determines appropriate correc�ve ac�on.
• Maintains inventories; and orders specialized computer supplies and equipment,
researches and assists with budge�ng and procurement of IT needs for the Police
Department.
• Provides video and audio edi�ng and redac�ng of confiden�al materials.
• Provides computer training and educa�on for Police Department staff as required.
• Develops customized sta�s�cal and data reports against the records management
system.
• Par�cipates in intra-governmental and intergovernmental teams to evaluate technology-
related projects.
• Monitors systems use; and makes recommenda�ons as needed.
• Serves as agency security officer for CJIS compliance.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related
experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of
educa�on and experience. Experience in computer systems, law enforcement and
emergency dispatch so�ware and record management.
• Na�onal Crime Informa�on Center Cer�fica�on within six months. Valid State of Iowa
driver's license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass
criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and two years of related
experience; or six years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of
educa�on and experience. Degree in computer informa�on systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and percentages.
• Ability to complete a variety of writen reports.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to effec�vely present informa�on and respond to ques�ons from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruc�ons in mathema�cal or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to manage mul�ple priori�es and complete assignments within designated �me
deadlines.
• Ability to read and understand technical materials, reports and journals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Knowledge of computer so�ware and hardware systems and general records
maintenance.
• Knowledge of Crystal Reports and basic understanding of SQL tables.
• Skill in listening, writen and verbal communica�ons, problem solving and �me
management.
• Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook).

No supervision of direct reports.
