Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Sweeps, mops, waxes, buffs, scrubs, and cleans floors and stairwells, vacuums, extracts and cleans carpeted areas, washes windows and walls, cleans and sani�zes restrooms, dusts, emp�es and cleans waste receptacles emp�es recycling materials bins, transfers materials to designated outside receptacles. • Cleans fountains, polishes metal work, dusts, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork as directed. • Performs or assists with minor building repairs, reports need for other repairs. • Maintains and organizes equipment and materials used in building maintenance, performs minor plumbing, electrical and hea�ng ven�la�on, air condi�oning work, orders and purchases supplies, monitors building temperatures. • Replaces light bulbs, turns lights on and off, locks and opens doors and windows. • Reports unauthorized occupants. • Atends to building emergencies when necessary. • Maintains surrounding walks and grounds, picks up liter outside building areas, assists with snow removal work. • Assists with room/building prepara�on for mee�ngs or events as directed. • Assists with pool maintenance and opera�ons. • Performs du�es in a safe manner and par�cipates in safety training. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. or pursuit of degree and one to three months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Updated: March 2024 • Valid State of Iowa driver's license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. FBI fingerprint screening will be required for facility access to Iowa City Police Department. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in janitorial or building maintenance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved writen or oral instruc�ons. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on in one-on-one and small group situa�ons to customers, clients, and other employees of the organiza�on. • Ability to follow instruc�on for use of chemicals and supplies. • Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment. • Ability to perform rou�ne du�es reliably under minimal supervision and ability to work independently. Aten�on to detail required. • Ability to read and comprehend simple instruc�ons, short correspondence, and memos. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to write or maintain simple records or correspondence. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Outlook and Cartegraph). Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
