Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Performs long term and short-term strategic planning for informa�on technology needs of the City. • Works with city management to determine the informa�on technology needs of each department and division. • Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of support staff in division ac�vi�es including applica�on development, opera�ons, and system management, maintenance, and security. • Makes recommenda�ons regarding so�ware purchases for user community and for system management. • Develops, monitors, reviews, and approves the purchase of Informa�on Technology equipment and supplies. • Manages work requests by reviewing, repor�ng and/or priori�zing. • Installs and maintains system and package so�ware purchases/updates, as needed. • Monitors system management reports and makes recommenda�ons concerning City computer system opera�on, storage, usage and applica�on development. • Manages security, monitors, no�fies and remediates including internal and external resources and users. • Responds to user needs with regard to daily opera�ons and applica�ons systems. • Administers, maintains and supports wide area and local area networks. • Completes internal phone system billing. • Completes charge backs to division for informa�on technology services. • Conducts phone support/moves/adds/changes. • Implements and monitors fiber op�c system for the City and public users such as the county, schools and universi�es, responds to breaks/cuts. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and six years of related experience; or ten years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree in Computer Science or Informa�on Technology. Experience in informa�on technology. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with satisfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and eight years of related experience; or twelve years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, propor�ons, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruc�ons in mathema�cal or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. • Ability to manage mul�ple priori�es and complete project assignments within designated �me deadlines. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scien�fic and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. • Ability to write speeches and ar�cles for publica�on that conform to prescribed style and format. • Knowledge of computer opera�ng systems, so�ware, and programming languages, Visual Basic, Access and SQL server, and skill in use of Laserfiche and Microso� Office – (Word, Excel, Outlook). • Skill in listening, writen and verbal communica�ons, leadership, problem solving, and �me management.
