Collects fares and ridership sta�s�cs for municipal and government reports. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Drives City buses on assigned route, picks up and discharges passengers. • Provides customer service to passengers and answers ques�ons, provides informa�on, assists elderly and handicapped with special boarding and sea�ng requirements. • Operates bus in a safe manner through varying traffic and weather condi�ons in accordance with preset �me schedules. • Inspects vehicles for visible defects or hazards, reports driving hazards, malfunc�ons, defects or accidents to appropriate par�es. • Ensures correct fare is deposited in fare box, issues and receives transfers, sells twenty- four-hour passes. • Obtains and records ridership sta�s�cal informa�on for municipal and government reports. • Enforces rider code of conduct, calls supervisor when assistance is needed, resolves conflicts among passengers. • Keeps a clean interior bus for riders. • Completes and prepares fare box forms, defect/malfunc�on reports and accident reports. • Responds to emergency subs�tu�on calls when required. • Assists in on-route por�on of training new drivers. • Follows increased security measures, such as shu�ng off engine and removing key when exi�ng bus, periodic visual bus sweeps and no�fying Police when condi�ons warrant. • May perform office du�es including answering phone and providing informa�on to general public. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. • Valid State of Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license instruc�on permit. Valid State of Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license with passenger and air-brake endorsements required upon comple�on of training period. Meet federal drug tes�ng requirements. A pre-employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in mass transit opera�ons or related. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to communicate tac�ully with the general public and answer ques�ons regarding transit schedules and routes. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to deal with stress and keep bus on route and on �me. • Ability to drive safely in adverse weather. • Ability to handle difficult customer situa�ons. • Ability to maintain flexible scheduling. • Ability to mul�-task and make decisions regarding rider conflicts, emergencies, scheduling problems or changing the route due to detours, traffic and weather-related condi�ons. • Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and observe and count fares collected for transporta�on service. • Ability to read and understand traffic signs and various office correspondence including run schedules and detour no�ces, safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals. • Ability to record sta�s�cal informa�on. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of Americans with Disabili�es Act regula�ons and City and State traffic regula�ons, signs and signals. • Knowledge of City street loca�ons and transit routes. • Knowledge of general mechanical aspects of transit vehicles including air brakes.
