HomeMy WebLinkAboutMedia Production AssistantUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Media Produc�on Assistant Department: City Manager’s Office Division: Communica�ons Supervisor: Media Produc�on Services Coordinator FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 8 Job Number: 0810 Job Summary Under general direc�on, produces, shoots, and edits videos for City and community organiza�ons and performs other media func�ons and general du�es in support of the Media Produc�on Services Coordinator. Operates a variety of specialized electronic equipment. Creates long format video programming, including mee�ngs, lectures, community forums, concerts and more. Creates short format video content for the City’s website, social media, and cable TV channel – City Channel 4. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Collaborates with City departments, divisions, boards, commissions, and community organiza�ons to produce and distribute video programming to meet community informa�on needs. • Operates a variety of video produc�on equipment and performs media produc�on, including videography, photography, audio recording, direc�ng mul�-camera live produc�ons, ligh�ng, produc�on planning, set design, script wri�ng, consulta�on and setup and teardown of equipment. • Edits or oversees the edi�ng of video programs and other mul�-media produc�ons. • Supports the produc�on ac�vi�es of other Communica�ons staff. • Provides non-produc�on media support for City departments, boards, commissions, and other community organiza�ons, including public address setup, audiovisual equipment loan or use, equipment purchase recommenda�ons, and equipment repair and/or maintenance. • Troubleshoots electrical or mechanical equipment problems, performs general equipment maintenance, and facilitates needed repairs. • Performs facility management as assigned. • Purchases miscellaneous supplies and items related to the maintenance, repair, or replacement of minor equipment. • Manages the television studio, studio equipment use, maintenance, repair and construc�on of video program sets, and produc�on vehicle use and maintenance. • Maintains produc�on ac�vity records, equipment inventory and maintenance records. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Associate’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on; or two years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree and/or experience in Videography or related. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Associate’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related experience; or three years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved writen or oral instruc�ons. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to read and understand writen technical materials in order to perform produc�on ac�vi�es. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write direc�ons, rou�ne reports and correspondence, and provide oral instruc�ons. • Knowledge of basic videography, scrip�ng, edi�ng, audio, and ligh�ng techniques. • Skill in making minor electrical and mechanical repairs. • Skill in opera�ng a variety of specialized electronic and video equipment. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook).
