HomeMy WebLinkAboutMedia Production Services CoordinatorUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Media Produc�on Services Coordinator Department: City Manager’s Office Division: Communica�ons Supervisor: Communica�ons Coordinator FLSA: Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 26 Job Number: 2614 Job Summary Manages and oversees the City’s media produc�on services, government and community video produc�on, audio/visual and digital program produc�on, and post-produc�on. Facilitates program cablecast and distribu�on of City programs. Reviews and determines media standards including systems design, quality control, produc�on priority and produc�on staff assignments. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Manages the Community Television Service (CTS) including collabora�on with community organiza�ons to aid comple�on and delivery of television programming to meet community informa�on needs. • Receives produc�on requests and maintains records of community client produc�on, support, and programming ac�vi�es. • Prepares periodic reports regarding City media produc�ons and other ac�vi�es. • Provides recommenda�ons for the annual budget. • Researches and recommends equipment purchases for media produc�on and post- produc�on. • Performs and supervises video produc�on including studio and field produc�on, ligh�ng, produc�on planning, set design; photographic projects, script wri�ng, consulta�on, audio/visual produc�on, and the set-up and dismantling of equipment in a safe manner. • Develops appropriate training programs and materials. • Operates and/or troubleshoots a variety of video, audio, electrical and mechanical equipment. • Performs general equipment maintenance. • Coordinates and/or provides media support services for other City departments and access channels including audio visual equipment use, recommenda�ons, troubleshoo�ng and maintenance. • Coordinates photo iden�fica�on for new employees. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs all other related du�es as assigned. Updated: March 2024 Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on; or four years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in videography, video edi�ng, audio mixing and recording, scrip�ng, TV studio produc�on and mul�-media graphics. Experience working with the public. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in cable access television, management, and computer databases. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on and respond to ques�ons from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to interpret a variety of instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and measurements. • Ability to prepare writen annual reports, bid documents, and to understand accoun�ng documents required. • Ability to read and understand writen technical materials in order to perform produc�on ac�vi�es. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to solve prac�cal problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situa�ons where only limited standardiza�on exists. • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems required. • Ability to write direc�ons, rou�ne reports, and provide oral instruc�ons. • Knowledge of basic videography, scrip�ng, edi�ng, audio, and ligh�ng techniques. • Skill in making minor electrical and mechanical repairs. • Skill in opera�ng a variety of specialized electronic and video equipment. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook) • Skill working with the Internet and computers, current non-linear computer edi�ng, digital field and studio acquisi�on equipment and audio recording equipment required. Supervision Involves leadership role such as regularly guiding, training, and providing direc�on to permanent staff in comple�ng daily tasks and assignments. May perform addi�onal supervisory du�es at the direc�on of the Department or Division Head to include disciplinary ac�on, assis�ng with hiring or firing, and wri�ng or delivering performance reviews.
