HomeMy WebLinkAboutMedia Production SpecialistUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Media Produc�on Specialist Department: City Manager’s Office Division: Communica�ons Supervisor: Media Produc�on Services Coordinator FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 13 Job Number: 1312 Job Summary Under general direc�on, serves as a video field producer and/or host of audio/visual produc�on projects and performs other media func�ons and general du�es. Operates a variety of specialized electronic and video equipment. Creates short-format video content for the City’s website, social media, and City Channel 4. Assists the Communica�ons Office with social media content management and scheduling of public informa�on. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Collaborates with City departments, divisions, boards, commissions, and community organiza�ons to produce and distribute video programming to inform the public regarding City and community en��es and their ac�vi�es. • Performs as facilitator and producer of video programming for City Channel 4, internet distribu�on and/or internal City communica�ons. • Hosts and creates various City mul�media projects, including podcasts, Facebook Live events, and other marke�ng projects in collabora�on with the Communica�ons Office, as well as hos�ng City Channel 4 original programming. • Performs as host of City Channel originated live and pre-recorded video programming, represents the City in external video communica�ons. • Researches video program topics and conducts interviews with the public and City personnel. • Coordinates and performs video produc�on, including produc�on planning, videography, ligh�ng, set design, script wri�ng, graphics crea�on, and equipment setup and teardown. • Edits or oversees the edi�ng of video programs and other mul�-media produc�ons. • Prepares and distributes promo�onal materials and press releases, PSAs, etc., about projects and programs on City Channel 4. • Manages the integra�on of social media as a promo�onal and/or distribu�on strategy and aids in the development and use of new technologies, ideas and formats for digital based programming. • Assists supervisor with equipment and produc�on es�mates for budget prepara�on. Updated: March 2024 • Works with employees in produc�on projects and serves as team leader for on-loca�on and studio-based video produc�on and post-produc�on ac�vi�es. • Par�cipates in periodic assessment of City Channel 4 and Communica�ons programming and helps the Division to implement strategies. • Provides leadership and assists with training and work assignments of hourly employees, work study students, interns, and/or volunteers. • Provides staff assistance to City departments and divisions as required. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs all other related du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on; or four years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Degree or coursework Videography or related. Experience working with the public or with diverse groups of people. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educa�onal ins�tu�on and one year of related experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in video communica�ons, video produc�on, or related. • Remote Pilot Cer�ficate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on and respond to ques�ons from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to interpret a variety of instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and measurements. • Ability to read and understand writen technical materials in order to perform produc�on ac�vi�es. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to solve prac�cal problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situa�ons where only limited standardiza�on exists. • Ability to write direc�ons, rou�ne reports, and provide oral instruc�ons. • Knowledge of basic videography, scrip�ng, edi�ng, audio, and ligh�ng techniques. • Skill in making minor electrical and mechanical repairs. • Skill in opera�ng a variety of specialized electronic and video equipment. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook).
