HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWI - Athletic FieldsUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Maintenance Worker I – Athle�c Fields Department: Parks & Recrea�on Division: Parks & Forestry Supervisor: Superintendent of Parks & Forestry FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 4 Job Number: 0403 Job Summary Under general supervision, performs work in the maintenance of athle�c facili�es and grounds and performs other related work as required. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Repairs, installs, designs, and manages irriga�on systems related to athle�c facili�es and other City facili�es. • Manages turf in athle�c fields, grounds and other City facili�es. • Operates equipment related to athle�c facili�es and grounds. • Assists in scheduling of events and assigns staff du�es based off events. • Maintains and repairs electrical equipment, facility plumbing, and performs general carpentry repairs. • Serves as crew leader on selected job assignments. • Assists in snow and ice removal for trails, pedestrian areas and parking lots, storm damage clean-up, and ice-ska�ng area maintenance. • Cleans all restrooms, shops, facili�es, and areas within the Parks Department. • Maintains digital log of maintenance. • Responds to storm or other emergencies, as needed. • Performs du�es in a safe manner and par�cipates in safety training. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in repair and management of athletic fields. • Cer�fied Pes�cide Applicator within six months of hire. Sa�sfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial driver’s license instruc�on permit upon first day in posi�on. Valid State of Iowa Class A commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsements Updated: March 2024 within 6 months of hire. Meet federal drug tes�ng requirements. Requires a pre- employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Sports turf management experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to follow oral and writen instruc�ons. • Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and take measurements. • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals and maintains writen job records. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in a public building. • Knowledge of custodial materials and equipment. • Skill in the opera�on of various cleaning equipment including pool vacuums, floor scrubbers and wet vacuums, transfer pumps, lawn mowers and snow blower. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook). Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
