HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWII - Central Business DistrictUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Maintenance Worker II – Transporta�on Services – CBD Department: Transporta�on Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Opera�ons Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 5 Job Number: 0506 Job Summary Under general direc�on, performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of the plaza, parking facili�es and adjacent areas in the Central Business District/North Side Market Place. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Performs ground liter and leaf removal in the pedestrian plaza and adjacent areas in the Central Business District, North Side Market Place, parking ramps and parking lots. • Performs maintenance to facili�es and site furnishings including pos�ng pillar bulle�n boards, drinking fountains, trellis, tree gates, ash urns, trash receptacles, benches, bike racks, etc. • Operates power washer to clean park benches, brick, graffi�, stonework etc. • Performs minor construc�on repairs to brick walk areas. • Assists with pain�ng projects in the downtown area including pain�ng parking stalls, crosswalks and parking lots/ramps in the downtown area. • Performs snow and ice removal in the pedestrian plaza, parking ramps, parking lots and other snow route areas as assigned. • Performs minor to moderate mechanical repairs on equipment and performs rou�ne maintenance in tools and equipment. • Operates pickup trucks, power sweepers, skid steer loader, mowers, power washers, cord trimmers, snow blowers and other specialized equipment. • Troubleshoots, repairs and performs maintenance for garage entrance and exit equipment, including �cket spiters, monthly card readers, gates, point of sale devices, ramp ligh�ng, automated pay sta�ons, meters, cases and posts. • Assists with collec�ng parking meter money. • Performs parking cashier du�es on occasion, receives parking �ckets from customers, collects money and makes change in the City’s parking facili�es. • Obtains and sets up equipment, tools and materials needed for work. • Performs plumbing and electrical repairs, repairs and/or reports vandalism. • Pulls weeds, cleans work site and spills, builds forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete. Updated: March 2024 • Performs safety checks on vehicles, equipment and tools, completes incident reports, inspec�on sheets and other forms. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in grounds maintenance. • Forkli� cer�fica�on required within proba�onary period. Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to establish and maintain effec�ve working rela�onships with co-workers and the general public. • Ability to follow oral and writen instruc�ons, to read and understand work orders and to maintain writen job records. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to responsibly perform assignments without immediate supervision. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair of municipal grounds and facili�es including custodial materials and equipment, light construc�on, plumbing, electrical and carpentry techniques and equipment. • Knowledge of occupa�onal hazards and proper safety precau�ons. • Skill in the opera�on and rou�ne maintenance of various equipment including power vacuums, sweepers, lawn mowers, snow blowers, cord trimmers, and a variety of power tools.
