Job Summary
Under general direc�on, assists with performing general landscaping du�es, building
maintenance and cleaning at the East Side Recycling Center. Performs specialized construc�on,
modifica�ons and installa�on of landscaping and recycling components. Assists with periodic
weekend events. Runs roll-off recycling routes on designated days.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Assists in se�ng up for scheduled events at the Environmental Educa�on Center.
• Operates and maintains oil shed, compost and wood mulch distribu�on area.
• Maintains recycling bins and controls liter.
• Disposes of recycled oil, oil filters and an�freeze.
• Performs grounds maintenance by mowing, watering, weeding, plan�ng, repairing, and
construc�ng landscape features, and mulching landscaped areas.
• Cleans floors, carpet, tables, chairs, kitchen, and bathroom in the Environmental
Educa�on Center.
• Removes trash from buildings, stocks buildings with cleaning supplies, toilet paper,
towels and other necessary supplies.
• Performs rou�ne checks of plumbing, electric, electronic, and other opera�ng systems of
the Environmental Educa�on Center.
• Operates snowplow and blowers to remove snow in winter months.
• Meets with on-site partners and the general public regarding basic ques�ons and
complaints.
• Communicates with supervisors on issues regarding public and partner complaints.
• Assists the Sustainability Coordinator and the Recycling Coordinator with projects as
needed.
• Assists with periodic weekend events.
• Transports recycle bins to contracted recycling company empty containers.
• Par�cipates in safety commitee and iden�fica�on of workplace hazards.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the
workplace and community.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in building
and grounds maintenance.
• Sa�sfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial driver’s license instruc�on
permit upon first day in posi�on. Valid State of Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license
with air brake and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire. Meet federal drug tes�ng
requirements. Requires a pre-employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must
pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of related experience or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to interface posi�vely with staff and customers.
• Ability to perform basic cleaning du�es.
• Ability to prepare writen instruc�ons and work records.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to safely operate recycling roll-off truck.
• Knowledge of general landscaping procedures.
• Skill in using computers and applicable software applications (Microsoft Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook).
• Skill in the opera�on of mowers, brush cuters and other landscaping equipment.
Supervision
No supervision of direct reports.
