HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWII - PoolsUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Maintenance Worker II – Pools Department: Parks & Recrea�on Division: Government Buildings Supervisor: Facili�es Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 5 Job Number: 0510 Job Summary Under general direc�on, performs all aspects of maintenance, security and cleaning du�es of buildings and grounds in various city facili�es. The primary focus of this posi�on is the maintenance and repair of aqua�cs systems and mechanical and plumbing systems within aqua�cs facili�es. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Performs backwashing on pool filtra�on systems; inspects and repairs system as needed. Helps coordinate assistance for annual pool maintenance; vacuums pools and adds chemicals to pool water as needed. • Inspects automa�c chemical delivery system chemical level, adds chemicals as needed; inspects, cleans and repairs system. • Monitors water chemistry and makes correc�ons as needed either manually or via computerized controller systems. • Cleans all areas of assigned buildings, sweeps, mops, vacuums, and waxes floors. • Washes windows and lockers, cleans restrooms and emp�es trash. • Monitors and conducts minor repair to the digital hea�ng, ven�la�on and air condi�oning, boiler, electrical, and plumbing. • Paints, caulks, replaces ceiling �le, replaces filters, and unloads trucks. • Maintains records of work ac�vi�es and reports the need for other repairs. • Maintains surrounding walks and grounds; assists with snow removal work and grass mowing. • Cleans swimming pool decks and makes repairs to shower areas as needed. • Works with contractors in construc�on, remodeling and maintenance of assigned buildings. • Orders hardware and cleaning supplies for Recrea�on facili�es and maintains adequate inventory. • Schedules needed work. • Works with courts, halfway houses and schools to secure no cost hourly staff. • Performs du�es in a safe manner and par�cipates in safety training. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in building maintenance, including general plumbing, heating, electrical or mechanical maintenance. • Cer�fied Pool Operator Cer�fica�on. Automated external defibrillator, cardiopulmonary resuscita�on, first aid cer�fied within six months of hire. Valid State of Iowa driver's license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass a background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in writen, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, propor�ons, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to follow oral and writen instruc�ons. • Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and take measurements. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals. • Ability to read and understand work orders, recrea�on rules, safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons, and procedure manuals, and maintain writen job records. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on. • Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of custodial materials and equipment. • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in a public building. • Skill in the opera�on of various cleaning equipment including pool vacuums, floor scrubbers and wet vacuums, transfer pumps, lawn mowers, and snow blower. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Outlook and Cartegraph).
