Job Summary
Par�cipates in the repair and maintenance of City parking meters, facili�es, and related
equipment. Collects parking revenue.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Schedules preven�ve maintenance for garage entrance and exit equipment, including
�cket spiters, gates, point of sale devices, ramp ligh�ng, automated pay sta�ons,
meters, cases and posts.
• Troubleshoots and repairs the mechanical opera�ons of the above equipment.
• Diagnoses and solves electrical problems with the entry and exit equipment.
• Receives and inves�gates complaints of malfunc�oning parking meters and performs
necessary maintenance.
• Maintains and organizes an adequate inventory of parts and tools.
• Maintains a weekly record of meters repaired and replaced.
• Cleans and maintains facili�es and equipment.
• Collects parking meter money.
• Assists with pain�ng projects in the downtown area including pain�ng parking stalls,
crosswalks, parking lots/ramps in the downtown area.
• Obtains and sets up equipment, tools and materials needed for work.
• Drives pickup trucks and operates specialized equipment such as blades, sanders,
sweepers and skid loaders.
• Collects facility trash and removes hazards, such as broken glass.
• Performs plumbing and electrical repairs, repairs and/or reports vandalism.
• Pulls weeds, cleans work site and spills, builds forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete.
• Performs safety checks on vehicles, equipment and tools, completes incident reports,
inspec�on sheets and other forms.
• Impounds vehicles.
• Performs parking cashier du�es on occasion, receives parking �ckets from customers,
collects money and makes change in the City’s parking facili�es.
• Removes snow and ice from lots, ramps, and other public spaces.

law enforcement.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school educa�on or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training;
or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in maintenance of
mechanical and electrical equipment
• Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with a sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of
age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or
training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in general
construc�on skills involving electrical, plumbing, and concrete work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to add, subtract, mul�ply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common frac�ons, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to compute rate, ra�o, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to read technical manuals, safety rules, opera�ng and maintenance instruc�ons,
and procedure manuals.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to speak effec�vely before groups of customers or employees of organiza�on.
• Ability to write rou�ne reports and correspondence.
• Knowledge of electrical communica�ons network, small motors, pulleys, belts, LCD
displays, detec�on loops, terminal power supply boards, transmiters and electrical
detectors required.

No supervision of direct reports.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use
hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally
required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee
regularly lifts and/or moves 25 pounds, and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

insect stings, and animals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Involves
