HomeMy WebLinkAboutParking Enforcement AttendantUpdated: March 2024 CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Posi�on Title: Parking Enforcement Atendant Department: Transporta�on Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Opera�ons Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 4 Job Number: 0424 Job Summary Under immediate direc�on, patrols and issues �ckets for illegal parking viola�ons to customers in the City’s parking facili�es and streets. Answers ques�ons and provides direc�ons to the general public. Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Patrols City parking ramps, streets, alleys and lots, issues �ckets for illegal parking at prohibited zones. • Enforces parking regula�ons in metered stalls, monitors vehicles in loading zones and issues �ckets if vehicle is over �me limit, calls for wrecker service as needed. • Checks vehicles for impound, impounds vehicles at direc�on of office, transports persons to pay outstanding �ckets. • Answers ques�ons and gives direc�ons to customers, directs problems or concerns to appropriate City department. • Reports vandalism, auto accidents, debris and faulty equipment on City parking facili�es and on City streets, appears in court to tes�fy for City, answers appeals for �ckets in ques�on. • Picks up mail, delivers papers to various departments and answers phone. • Removes snow and ice from lots, ramps, and public spaces. • Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. • Performs other du�es as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Experience in customer service. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with sa�sfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass a criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other Updated: March 2024 • High school educa�on or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combina�on of educa�on and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to mul�ply and divide with 10's and 100's. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved writen or oral instruc�ons. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situa�ons. • Ability to effec�vely present informa�on in one-on-one and small group situa�ons to customers, clients, and other employees of the organiza�on. • Ability to perform these opera�ons using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. • Ability to read and understand writen materials to record work ac�vi�es or keep records. • Ability to reconcile payments and handle money. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es. • Ability to write simple correspondence. • Knowledge of all parking valida�on procedures. • Knowledge of City parking codes. • Skill in observa�on and communica�on. • Skill in opera�on of computer, cash register and adding machine. • Skill in using computers and applicable so�ware applica�ons (Microso� Office – Word, Excel, Outlook).
