Job Summary
Under immediate direc�on, operates scale to weigh refuse and other items brought in and out
of the City Landfill by customers. Collects fees and prepares daily deposits.
Essen�al Job Du�es and Responsibili�es
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive
or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Operates scale to weigh refuse and other items brought in and out of the City Landfill by
customers, prepares correct charge �ckets for separate items, and collects fees.
• Provides direc�ons and educa�on to customers on where to deliver Landfill items by
regula�ons.
• Prepares daily deposits, tallies receipts, balances cash drawer.
• Enters data and informa�on into repor�ng and tracking systems.
• Answers the telephone and directs calls and ques�ons to the appropriate par�es,
receives messages.
• Tracks daily �me for hourly workers.
• Cleans the scale pla�orm, removes snow, ice, mud, and other debris, as needed.
• Removes liter from Landfill area and building.
• Purchases office supplies and first aid/safety supplies.
• Cleans scalehouse area regularly, performs general custodial du�es.
• Provides startup and shutdown of scale and scalehouse area.
• Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the
workplace and community.
• Performs other du�es as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Complete State of Iowa Oath of Weighmaster. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
• High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or

training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in
cashiering or customer service.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abili�es
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruc�ons furnished in
writen, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, propor�ons,
percentages.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situa�ons.
• Ability to handle money and make change.
• Ability to interface posi�vely with staff and customers.
• Ability to perform basic mathema�cal calcula�ons and make change.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instruc�ons, short correspondence, memos,
special waste forms and permits.
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out du�es.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Knowledge of landfill rules and regula�ons.
• Knowledge of occupa�onal hazards and safety precau�ons.
• Skill in using computers and applicable software applications (Microsoft Office – Word,
Excel, Outlook).
• Skills in opera�ng computerized scale and a calculator.
Supervision
No supervision of direct reports.
