Subject: PCRB
Hello, Kellie: As I mentioned on the phone, over the past several months, I've been recruited by several
schools (visits to those institutions explains my absence at recent meetings). I've just accepted a new
position, and I wanted to let the PCRB and Council know as soon as possible that my last meeting will
be the June 2010 meeting.
I enjoy very much being a part of this important Iowa City board, and I hope that the board will continue
its important work!
Sincerely,
Dr. V ay

Tom,
I didri t have the time yesterday to stay late and talk with you, hence this email.
In anticipating forthcoming professional & personal commitments I have made the
reluctant decision to step away from the board mid way through my term. I will stay
on until a replacement is found, by summer I would guess, and fulfill my obligations to
the best of my abilities. Lastly, it's been a good experience and a privilege.
Best,
Michael

WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ADVISORY BOARD?
have served on the Task Force for 1 year and participated in all its meetings. Iowa City has completed its carbon
emission inventory and is starting to create community task forces to set target emission goals. t spoke with John
Yapp and Kent Ralston about the formation of the group as an outgrowth of the Siena Club's Cool Cities program to
~n together and share best practices about reducing carbon emissions of local government entities.
WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN MAKE TO THIS ADVISORY BOARD (OR STATE
REASON FOR APPLYING)?
The Cool Cities program of the Sierra Club encourages local citizens to work with their local governments to create
carbon reduction goals and then create accountability toward those goals through a citizen task force. I have been
working with local govemments in the area for 3 years to promote these goals and desire to continue to do so. Local
govemment should be a leader using best practices in carbon reduction and also set an example for its citzens.
Iowa City has taken the intiative in carbon reduction and I want to help it continue to do so. 1 hope to work with
Brenda Nations and other knowledgable people in Iowa City and the surrouding area to continue toNspire our
govemment leaders and help Iowa City make progress in this important area. o
